I can't for the life of me justify the price of these cards.

Why hasn't NVIDIA showed up to bat? Seems like video card prices are all high these days and AMD is leading the way.:mad::mad:

no actually Nvidia is leading the way, it just took AMD 5 years to realize it so why not take advantage of it while they can. once Nvidia releases the GTX 660 kepler based card in a couple months prices should start dropping.

if people are willing to pay the price, take advantage of it. once sales start slowing down then thats when you drop the prices, right now the demand is high enough to keep the cards right where they are. in the end the only one you can blame here is Nvidia, not AMD.

the biggest issue i see here is that people keep forgetting that the HDx900 line of cards are considered high(7950) and ultra high(7970) range cards. the mid range is the HDx800 series cards which will be priced well under 400 bucks. same case with Nvidia, the GTX 470/570 are both high end where as the GTX 480/580 are considered ultra high end. thus they cost the most. the GTX 560TI is considered mid range and thus is priced accordingly for the market its meant to be sold in. the problem with AMD up to now is that the line between mid/high/ultra high was a bit blured because the prices were so close together. for example if you were in the market for a 6850 you could of spend 50 more and got a 6870 or you could of spent another 60 dollars more and gotten a 6950 instead or hell just throw another 75 on there and you are at a 6970.. then you look at Nvidia's pricing. to go from a GTX 560TI to a GTX 570 was 150 bucks, to go from a GTX 570 to a GTX 580 was another 150 dollars.

Can we please start banning for these threads? Tired of reading price complaints.

so amd is going to give me more video cards later?
also remember, in a ponzi scheme, only the people who come in late loose out :p

Justify how? What exactly is wrong with the price? How would you have priced them?

Do you need the new cards? do you just want to stay up with current generations? Im ponying up the cash because I sold my 6950 @ 6970 crossfire. Did I need it? well, I'd like to play at better speeds. But no

Im on the edge. Sometimes I can justify and at other times I feel like they charge a bit too much for my liking. But now ive decided to go ahead and buy an Asus DCU II card.

LOL... AMD leading the way with high prices...

I know it's a troll thread, but it made me laugh good!

it would be nice.. then i could stop having to use so much common sense and logic in my damn replies because i know there are people that read this forum dumb enough to believe these price troll threads.

Nobody forced you people to click this thread AND reply to it.

I'm tired of reading about you complaining about people complaining and my subsequent reply complaining about said complaining of complaining. :D

then stop complaining about the people complaining about those damn people that are complaining...

DUH!!! ;)

a [H]ard|DCer has spoken - do what he says, mods

lol now if only being a hard DC'er had some weight around here it'd be worth it, but i'm just another peon like everyone else here..

Ooook, since someone here doesn't know the meaning of PONZI SCHEME i will just drop the link here so you can give it a good long reading:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponzi_scheme

I mean seriously...

If you really wanna at least learn something about pricing i would recommend you to start with this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_determination

DISCLAIMER: yes, wikipedia is terrible and should never be used as a source, but let's be honest here people, we gotta start handing info from the simplest source possible, right?...

Is this the same SonDa that used to get banned for all the annoying 5770 threads?

Reverse Ponzi Scheme then! :D

I posted this in another thread, but seems to be apt here as well.

So, it looks from the sounds of it, the 7850/7870 will perform and be priced at about the same level as the 6950/6970. Meanwhile we can suppose that the 7750/7770 will be priced and perform at the same level as the 6850/6870. Basically, AMD created a new price bracket in their line up with the 7xxx series. Considering that at launch a 5850 cost about $300, and the card at the same level in the next generation (6950) cost the same $300. Now we are at the current generation and AMD decides to up the price $150? I'm GPU agnostic, so I'm really hoping that nVidia pulls a "Radeon 4870 (back then the GTX280 was about $600, then the 4870 came out, was on average 10-15% slower for half the price, forced nVidia to lower their ridiculous prices)" with the GTX660 Ti to normalize prices again. The Radeon 7970 should really be $400, and the 7950 should be $300, my best guess is that they are trying to maximize profits now before nVidia's "4870" is released. I just don't think that AMD's going to send out $100 rebate checks to early adopters like nVidia did for GTX280 and GTX260 owners.

So basically, it seems like the GTX660 Ti vs Radeon 7970 is going to be a lot like the Radeon 4870 vs GTX280. Let's hope nVidia really does price the GTX660 Ti at $300. I'd much prefer getting two GTX660 Ti (if they perform as close to the 7950 as the 4870 did to the GTX260, in other words, identically) for $600, than a single Radeon 7970 for $550...Hell, I did it before, Got two 4870's instead of one GTX280 and was very happy with it).

Unless, of course, nVidia and AMD are scheming behind the scenes to artificially raise GPU prices like they did back in the x1800/7800 era.

That was old stuff. I got carried away on some of those threads and some of those threads turned into flame wars and I got the blunt end of the stick. I'm thankful it wasn't a permanent ban because I enjoy participating on the forums.

It's just a discussion. Not meant to get people all bent out of shape and mad at each other.

Certainly there must be others that do or don't agree with my rant for certain reasons. If you don't like the thread then just look away. I'm not trying to deliberately or indirectly offend or disrespect any member of this forum.

read other 7970 thread on this forum
it's full of people crying about price already

I would suggest looking up what a ponzi scheme is first next time, since you look like a horrible attempt at a troll or someone attempting to put a mayhem destined thread in the video card form.

Ponzi scheme, Rip off, pricing scam... whatever negative pricing label you want to call it. This thread is just a rant on current pricing. I'm trying to make sense of it all and it just seems like video card prices are way high. Hopefully somebody up the chain of command at NVIDIA or AMD will take note and work on making video cards that are capable and affordable. If people can't afford video cards to play games nobody is going to buy them and IMO it is going to hurt the PC gaming industry.

How is 7950 a rip off when its cheaper than a 3gb gtx 580 ,it has better performance and power consumption?

$470 is a lot for a second tier card. The 6950 launched at $300. I suppose when you compare it to the competitions performance, the price is about right.

so don't buy any, no ones forcing you - and stop repeating the same crap every thread - adding to permanent ignore suggest others do the same !

we should do a comparison of the costs of the cards we buy when they come out, to how long they are viable in the marketplace until they need to be replaced.. so about 280 bucks when i bought the 8800gts lasted about 4 years b4 i sli'd so 70 a year

LETS DO CRAZY REDUNDANT MATH!

If people quit paying $700 for video cards they will stop selling video cards for $700.
ePeen is expensive

Whatever your intentions were with starting this thread, it's pretty clear that it's not going to go anywhere productive so it's being closed.
