Hello everyone,

As you may know Thief is launching next week. As an AMD Gaming Evolved title, it has many Radeon-optimized features like our CrossFire and Eyefinity technologies. Eidos Montreal as just published a blog which provides information on the numerous pc-specific features of the game as well as the PC system requirements, here is the link: http://community.eidosmontreal.com/blogs/Thief-PC-Requirements?theme=thief

As mentioned in the blog, Eidos and AMD simply have a little more work to do to make sure the game delivers the fastest and best gaming experience for AMD Radeon customers, and are working together on a patch which will feature the Mantle API and TrueAudio technologies; this patch will be out next month.

Thief will feature AMD CrossFire and AMD Eyefinity technologies at launch; the game will be available on February 25th in North America and on the 28th in Europe.

Here are a few links I hope you find helpful:

Recommended Specs
CPU: AMD FX 8000 series or better / Intel Quad 17 Core CPU
Guess I better snap up one of those new 15-core Xeons.

If Nixxes was involved with the port I am sure it will be a stellar PC experience, as both Tomb Raider and Deus Ex: HR were amazing on PC. Unfortunately I've heard mixed opinions about this game so I'm going to wait for it to release and more feedback before I buy it.

I guess it's a remake of the original? I've never played the series myself but was a bit curious about it.

I played the last one (Thief: Deadly Shadows) and I'm definitely going to play this new installment of the franchise...it will be a nice alternative to BF4 - going from the battlefields to the dark, gritty, stealthy world of Thief should be a nice "weekend getaway" :)

I'll just have to remind myself that Thief is not an FPS; more of a stealthy 1st person action/adventure game (i.e. no fraggin!), and play it with my lights dimmed down. Did you guys see the latest mission walk-through video?

Nixxes is doing it.

Yup, Nixxes does amazing work. This should feel like a solid PC game and not a port.

lol recommend an i7. Can tell AMD is behind that one. Meanwhile I'd bet the house an i5 would run it better than an AMD 8000 without mantle. Mantle is AMD crap cpu saviour.

System requirements are usually inaccurate, this isn't anything new. I'm sure an i5 will run it fine.

Call mantle what you want, but I'll take the free performance. ;)

Open your mind. GPU is about 10X faster making the CPU less relevant. Mantle is still in early stages but improving fast!

I think you guys may be missing the implication/purpose of his post, which is that the game company in league with AMD would compare the performance of their FX 8000 to that of a Core i7, while others would consider that absurd.

I think it has to do with the number of threads. 8 being the operative number.

Funny to read people WANTING to waste CPU resources cause they bought an expensive CPU.

Mantle doesn't need it.

:p

Warsam, do you know if AMD will be finishing the Mantle drivers for the 7000 series soon? D3D is still running better overall on BF4 with my 7850.

The FX8320/FX8350 do very well against i7s when you compare them in games that are heavily multithreaded like BF4. So it depends on if Thief turns out to favor more cores or not.

U know those graphs are a joke right. 780ti averaging 60fps at 1080p lol. My 780 gets MINIMUM 70-80fps maxed at 1080p and avg is over 100fps. Thats at stock clocks.

This is single player

This is multi player

Seems to be in line. You are averaging 100+ FPS maxed @ 1080p with a stock 780 (non ti) in MP? What's different about your setup?

Yes I am and so is everybody else. First off that single player one is in line. Single player has lower framerates. That multiplayer 1 is bullshit. Fuck I averaged 70fps maxed with 7970 without mantle.

edit: just noticed that graph is win7. Maybe its not bullshit. Its win7 which everyone knows has excessive cpu usage for no reason. Would explain those gains. Win8 has MASSIVE increases over Win7 in bf4.

Maybe not as much of a gain as I thought. But that graph is bullshit. Even 770 avg 75fps on ultra settings at 1080p.

Maybe they are just stupid and have 2 parked cores on that 3770k they are using. That would make sense too.

Preaching to the wrong crowd. 290X arrives tomorrow plus updated Mantle drivers are suppose to drop this week. :D

See, this is the unfortunate part of being tied to M$, Interesting how they finally manage to get M/T working in DX11 right when Mantle drops. There's a catch though, it's only being implemented on the latest OS. Even though it's a part of the DX11 spec and should work on all DX11 OS's. So, this is great for the ~4% of people who are running Win 8. If you are happy with Win 7 and don't want to update... too bad. You miss out.

Too bad too. Because BF4 is playing like butter on my 780ti oc at 2560X1600 with 4XMSAA. Yeah sure it drops a little here and there, but not enough to worry about. Mantle shmantle.... The latest hardware eats through this game... unless you want that resolution slider turned to max which to me doesn't improve visual quality that much for the performance loss you get. But that's just imo....

Can you guys take the BF4/Mantle discussion to the actual BF4/Mantle thread we have going?
