hey guys,

my friend is trying to build a budget gaming build for $500 - $750. He wants to run games on 1080p ultra.

I picked out AMD thinking about the budget but if you guys think intel part would be better let me know. Same for the video card with amd/nvidia since the prices dropped a bit.

(he has a $500 limit on his amazon card. that why all the stuff is from there.) (he has 300 on his best buy card, maybe alittle more, thats why the video card is there) Please help me pick out the best option for him parts wise. thank you in advance.

Some additional questions:
6) Will you be overclocking?
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video? UEFI? etc.

Also, what games will he be playing?

What games? If he's playing games that are dependent on single thread performance, Intel will be the better choice.

just about any game he can buy on steam. maybe bf4, bioshocks, etc.

minor overclocking would be nice nothing crazy sine this is his first build maybe even none long as it runs well.

as soon as we can decided on pieces hell start buying them

no raid, no firewire, single gpu is fine amd or nvidia is fine not to fancy for features long as u think its good for gaming.

Here's what I recommend instead:
$130 - Intel Core i3-4130 CPU
$75 - MSI B85-G41 PC MATE Intel B85 ATX Motherboard
$65 - Corsair CMX8GX3M1A1333C9 8GB DDR3 1333 RAM
$64 - Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$21 - LG GH24NS95B DVD Burner
$60 - Corsair CX600 600W PSU
$43 - NZXT Source 210 Elite White with Black Front Trim ATX Case
---
Total: $458 shipped plus tax

Key improvements:
- Faster CPU for games
- Slightly faster HDD
- Better cooling case with better cable management as well
- Cheaper part but equal quality parts

K sweet. Ill let him know to get those parts. Any recommendation on the video card?

I recommend Asus, MSI, or Gigabyte for the R9 270X for their longer warranties and more than likely better customer support.
