Amd Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core CPU - Photoshop Test

165 seconds!!!!
Athlon64X2 3800
2 GB RAM
Abit AN8 Ultra
ATI X700
WD 74 raptor

i'm running PS6.01@work. no$ to upgrade, but yeah, older software sux@SMP as you can see.

X2 3800+ OC'd to 2.4 GHz
1G Corsair VS RAM
Normal stuff open, including BitTorrent, two instances of folding, Trillian, etc..

Photoshop CS2

35 seconds.

 Just re-built my PC: from fairly fast nforce2 ulltra xp 2700 @ 2.3 with 2048 Corsair XMS Twinx 2-3-2-6, Zalman 7000CU...antec 550W etc...142 secs...
new:

A64 3500 winchester @2.2 (11x200), 2000 HTT, 1.4v...stock cooler
Elitegroup KV2 Extreme K8T800 Pro chipset
3072mb Dual-Channel: Corsair XMS 2048;Elixir 1024 PC3200 @ 159Mhz 3-3-3-8
BFG 6800 GT-R OC 256mb DDR3 AGP @370/1000 (NV-5 Silencer DHES)
2x80Gb/8mb PATA133; 160Gb/8mb PATA100; 3x optical
Antec TruePower 550W
Antec SLK3700 twin adj 120mm fans

Ran test twice: 75 secs. Will overclocking the cpu lower speeds ? I'm thinking about removing the Elixir ddr400, as it is very slow compared to the XMS.

OC'd A64 3500 to 2.45Ghz, dropping score to 67s, from 75-77s @ 2.2
So , perhaps 2.5-2.6 will drop it cosistently below 60s for a single core.

A64 3500 90nm @ 2.45 | strong Exhaust/Intake 120mm fans | Stock 64 cooler | PSCS2 | 3072mb PC3200 mixed 2048 Corsair XMS + 1024 Elixir PC3200 @ 2.5-3-3-7 157Mhz |

1gb OCZ Platnium CL 2-3-2-5
meh... specs in sig (gaming rig)

46 seconds with nvidea software, logitech setpoint, Hawking wireless util, and nod32 antivirus running in the background.

My cpu is an inte D940 presler. View my complete rig at this link: http://anandtech.com/mysystemrig.aspx?rigid=32112

It should be alot faster after i get my ram in next week. Im still using the cheap ram that came with my gateway.

41.92 seconds on dual opteron 246 @ stock, 2G ram in 4 x 512. This is by stopwatch.
2nd try by stopwatch: 42.36

Anyone know how to see the photoshop timer?
Edit: found it
first try 45.5 w/ photoshop timer
2nd try:50.8 on the photoshop timer, 42.88 on my stopwatch, WTF? Anyon else think the photoshop timer is not very accurate ?
3rd try: 54.4s photoshop timer, 42.31 on my stop watch
4th try: 52.0s photoshop timer, 42.80 on my stop watch

Conclusion: the ps timer sucks :)

Btw, I posted earlier in this thread. That was on AMD 8131 chipset. This new time is on nforce 4 pro chipset.

how do you even get Photoshop without spending $600...???

Go to download.com
search for photoshop

there is a trial called "cs2" that everyone is using.

ill throw my little hat in the ring for a diff flavor

I had a stopwatch nearby so it's fairly accurate, no guessing bullshits

920d @ 3925mhz = 34s

Via stopwatch of built in timer?

stopwatch, using the second hand of my wristwatch, how do you do the timer?

it wont be any different i dont think

i absolutely despise Photoshop so much i want to throw my PC out the window right now just because it is running Photoshop, this aggravating piece of crap program, would take a year to learn how to use it well, forget that

i believe PS elements sells at a much cheaper price ~$200? and it has most of the touchups tools that PS has. i think Elements elminates some of the pro tools (the ones with curves).

29 seconds for the past 4 tries on the dime.

I am running Windows XP x64 with Adobe Photoshop CS2.

This is my setup:
AMD Opteron 165 (@1.8GHZ stock non-OC)
Asus A8N-SLI Premium Mobo
2 GB OCZ DDR400 Memory
6600GT 128 MB EVGA Video Card
Enermax Liberty 500W PSU

This whole setup is running on air, with really low temps. I can't wait to see what it will do when I stable OC it. My friend got his up to around 2.6 ghz on air.

***To you guys out there with dual core systems, there are ways to get all the juice from the dual core.***
I'd recomend looking at this guide and following it to a tee. I have seen you guys crank out 40-50 second timings with OCing on your opterons and x2's... this shouldnt be the case. This will allow XP to utilise BOTH cores, when right now you might be only utilizing one, and you don't know it.

That's my two cents.

Supermicro H8DCE
Dual Opteron 254 @ 2.8GHz Stock
2GB DDR 400 3-3-3-8 T1
EVGA 7800GTX 512

Photoshop CS
1st try 28s
2nd try 25s
3rd try 25s
Stopwatch

Trial copy of Photoshop CS2
1st try 25s
2nd try 23s
3rd try 22s
Stopwatch

How do I use the built in timer in Photoshop? I want to be more accurate.

Hitting around 30-32 seconds

AMD Athlon64 X2 4400+ @ 2.64 GHz
ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe
2x OCZ EB Platinum Edition DDR500 1024MB (3-3-2-7-1T) @ 240 MHz
Western Digital Raptor Server Edition 150GB

I get 34s on CS2 with a X2 3800+ @ 2.55GHz running WinXP x64 and (edit) 125s on CS2 with a Dothan @ 2GHz running WinXP Pro. Both times were made by watch/average of 3 runs.

X2 system: NF4, 1GB DC PC3200 CL2.5 @ 212MHz, 7800GT
Dothan system: 915GM, 1GB DC DDR2-3200 CL3, integrated GMA900 graphics

CS2 is almost pegging both cores:

63 seconds. WOW, i'm getting crappy times

P4 530 3.0 @ 4.0 (1066 FSB)
2.0 Gigs of Ram
Photoshop CS

No one else seems to care about it being Dual core (or even amd in some cases)

71 seconds.

41 sec.

Opteron 170 @ 2.55 Ghz
2GB Dual Channel. 3-3-3-8 1T

38 sec.

Opteron 170 @ 2.68 Ghz
2GB Dual Channel. 3-3-3-8 1T

From this small sample, to get 27sec requires a 2.81Ghz Opteron? the extra 1MB L2 cache doesn't benefit PS.

lol. whatever.

75 Seconds for my mediocre system running iTunes, Steam, Firefox, and AIM in the background. :D Specs in sig

run with Pentium D 920 @ 3.9Ghz, DDR2 @ 700 4-4-4-12 with Photoshop CS 8.0 (not CS2)

time: 41.1 approximately (used a stop watch) 3's & averaged, with Mcafee, Zonealarm, (30 total processes including PS)

Thought what the hell i'll give this a try. Using the system in my sig.
Running Photshop CS2,

Stop watch, 98 sec. Ran it twice, same score.
Internal clock, 117 sec. Ran it twice, same score.

There seems to be a difference between my stop watch and the internal clock.

A clear sign that I need to start saving for an upgrade... yesterday.

00:02:20 running an Athlon XP 2700+ @ 2210MHz w/ 1GB RAM, *nothing* else running to blame the sh1t score on

45 secs with machine in the sig,
Has been on for about 12 days though and has been using 3ds Max and other progs. had firefox running in the background.

41 Seconds

3800+ / no OC
1 Gig Corsair 3200
2x36GB Raptors, Raid0
P:CS2
running skype, gaim, firefox

(seems like I'm much faster than everyone else with a similar setup... interesting.... Must be the Hard Drives.)
