I just bought a new computer with a socket 939 motherboard (Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9) and AMD Athlon 3200+ socket 939 processor (I got retail box for those, but seller assembled the computer for me, yeah, shame on me, had no time to do it myself, first time I actually pay for that).

WCPUID reports the processor as:
Processor : AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Platform : Socket754 (mCPGA Package)
Vendor String : AuthenticAMD
CPU Type : Original OEM Processor
Name String : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+
Internal Clock : 2010.29mhz System Clock : 201.03mhz
System Bus : 201.03mhz Multiplier : 10.0

Is that normal? My socket939 processor is reporting as Socket754? Why?

Thanks for answers!

take out the processor and count the pins, then count the pins on the motherboard

If it's a Winchester, you're good. If it's a Newcastle or ClawHammer things are more complicated.

or just see if theres a big ass hole where the other 185 pins would go.

that would not be good..

but yeah, its just a problem with some versions of cpuz

and yes i know the two sockets dont fit together :p

SiSoft Sandra says this (notice the bolds and underlined areas):

throw up a cpu-z shot. i bet your mobo is just weird. my board at bootup says that the 2800+ is running at 214mhz, but it isnt

[offtopic]
Damn, that's some O/c on a 2800+, how stable is it?
[/offtopic]

100% prime blend for 15 hours and prime small fft's for 12+ hours. its gonna be alot better when i have wcing and can throw the htt to 289, so i can run at 2.6ghz all the time!

If you're sure your Mobo is 939 and your CPU is 939, why you worry?

As eclipse said, a 754socket cpu won't fit a 939 mobo.

That Sandra info makes me think you're fine.

...although a rubber mallet inside your computer...the possibilities are endless.

look up the mobo mode thats printed on the board and look it upl on the makers website

Well, looks like CPU-Z is the winner here.

if its a winchester, then its 939. some boards give weird readings, heck my old abit mobo couldnt use speedfan or mbm for temp sensing. thats abits uguru at its best :D
