I have a Socket 754 3200+ running @ 2.4.. Now I have everything to build my new PC except for a CPU.. Now I'm not sure which processor to go with but I was looking @ the 3700+ Sandi since that seems to be the best bang right now.. My question is they both run @ 2.2 would I see a different in speed or anything? Since they are 2 different Sockets.. Just want some help here to see what you guys think or maybe something better if you guys had that also..

Thanks

DFI for obvious reasons. voltage control, high clocks, good looks. all that jazz.

Thanks For Answering My Question... The poll was something that I added just to see what you guys thought...

socket 754 processor running at 2.2ghz vs a socket 939 processor running at 2.2 (single core), you will not notice a performance difference.

is that what you were wondering?

Yes, go with the DFI mobo. You can also get an Opteron 146 single core cpu at Mwave right now for $209. The Opterons overclock very well - up to 2.7-3.0 ghz with the right setup.
No matter what mobo you use, consult the manufacturer's website for compatible ram and then go check it out at Newegg or Zipzoomfly. They'll tell you the latency and timing specs along with the price.

Good luck.

:D This is Funny :D .. But nah thats what I was asking I'm going with another DFI board I have the DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR.. Just right now not sure about a processor since the prices are like changing everyday and Its kinda hard to make a decision.. But Opteron's I'm really not sure are they good for gaming? Never really messed around with one to say no thats ok... but I'm loving the suggestions

S754 did not have dual channel memory while S939 does, and S939 San Diego core will have 1MB L2 Cache. the Sandiego will be faster at the same speed.

You may not see as huge of an increase in performance as you may expect. I had a 3200+ 754 OC to 2.2. This was the original 3200 that had the 1 meg of cahce. I didnt have any performance gian moving to 939 pin other than the ability to OC more. The 1 meg of cahce I gave up for 512 had a bigger impact than getting dual channel memory.

yeah, you probably won't notice any performance increase moving to socket 939 if you are running at the same clock speed...

Opterons are good for gaming. They're pretty much the same processor with a few differences... but if you have an Athlon 64 running at 2ghz, and an Opteron running at 2ghz they will perform the same.

But many people have had very good overclocks using opteron processors. I think they go through more intensive testing than Athlon 64's, and some (all?) use the same cores as FX processors. I got a 50% overclock with my Opteron 165 on air, so it's running at 2700mhz..

I don't have any of those brands right now, but my friend ordered an MSI nF4 mobo, and it seemed really good. We had a lot of trouble locking the HSF into place because it really seemed like a tight fit, but aside from that it seemed like a good board.

DFI :p altho im sure asus and epox are just as good

ignore the people that say its DFI mobos are too complicated to use with too many settings, for me it ran without any bios changes other than me having to flash, and took a day to figure out the bios :p

edit: hmm but one thing i found out is that their customer service is :/

Oh trust me I know I've had mine for over a year with no problems and setup a few new ones and there great.. But back to the opteron's are they good for gaming? and Does anyone have any issues with them?

yes opterons are fine, read what I said before. I've only had one issue with CS:S but that's only because I am using a dual core, not because it is an opteron. And I fixed my problem by setting the processor affinity to 0.

Opterons are great for gaming. Go to the Opteron section here on this forum and you'll see. Or just check out some of the other threads regarding Opterons here in this section.
The Opteron is just a little better than the San Diego (single core cpu's) because they were really intended for workstations. They seem to be a bit more stable than their A64 counterparts and OC like mad, plus all Opterons come with the 1mb L2 cache. Just make sure you have some decent ram and you'll be one happy gamer. :D I'm contemplating the move from a socket 754 3000+ Venice (see my sig) to an Opteron 146 and DFI mobo myself along with some Geil ram recommended by DFI that is optimized for the nForce 4 chipset. It runs 2-2-2-5 1T and its only $135 for a 1mb kit (2x512) at Newegg.
