AMD 3d NOW! question

Hi, just wondering what was the last AMD cpu to still support the original 3D NOW! instruction set?

I ask because I'm looking for an upgrade for my 3dfx voodoo system, and a few of the old glide games took advantage of it.

Pretty sure the Phenoms were. My 965BE did and looking at CPUboss shows that Phenom did support 3Dnow. Dropped support with the FX series.

Yeah, the K8-lineage all support 3DNow! instructions. Even my 32nm-based Llano chips supported them.

To be fair though, it's not like the performance gains from the instructions are going to be noticeable going forward.

Note there are plenty of Glide wrappers out there, for those games that require Voodoo support.

Those "Glide wrappers" still do not perform nearly as well as a Voodoo 3/4/5 will in old games though..Although if OP is looking for a modern setup and has an AGP based V3/4/5 I would look for a socket 939 X2...They perform well enough (coupled with an SSD) for general use and will crush old native Glide games...If he is using PCI based Voodoo 2s, well I guess he can go much more modern...

I have voodoo 5 5500 pci ;-)
So the world is my oyster.

I also have v5 agp, but only works on agp 2x 3.3volt slots.. despite what it says on the box.

I also have a pair of voodoo2's in sli and an original voodoo 1 (dimond monster 3d) card.. it was my first ever 3d accellerator. :)

Hi..
so im looking at getting the 'AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition' on an AM3 board.

A couple questions:

Are there two versions of this chip? Black edition and non black edition?
Or are they all 'black' ?

Also, from what i read, 3dnow was dropped from august 2010 onwards. So if there are two versions, could this mean that the black edition does not have 3dnow , but the non black version does?

Anybody know?
Thanks everybody for your replys so far . :) very helpful!

Not likely they would drop 3Dnow until a new chip not a revision of an old one so you are safe there.

BE just meant unlocked and I think most were and likely the 1100T would be.

Actually just checked on the Phenoms and boy do people want some dough for those. The 1100T Used is hovering north of $150 up to $300. The 965BE was better at $45 to $200 and $299 new. If it wasn't for the 3DNOW you needed I might be hesitant.
