Strings come in various gauges which can produce a different timbre, and on some instruments allow different types of play styles, like extra light gauge for heavy pitch bending on guitars.

Also, while I'm down for the funny, some of you guys seriously need to grow the fuck up. This shit stopped being funny around the end of 3rd grade. Also, those are kind of shit strings IMO. I like JSI's, D'Addario's, and Indiana's.
 
My girlfriend caught what I was reading here on my monitor and got all excited when she saw "G-String" and the word "Sale"...
