It looks like Amazon's cloud crashed last night and took several other sites with it.

We can confirm connectivity errors impacting EC2 instances and increased latencies impacting EBS volumes in multiple availability zones in the US-EAST-1 region. Increased error rates are affecting EBS CreateVolume API calls. We continue to work towards resolution.

I have been telling my clients to avoid the cloud like the plague for this very reason....
 
So that's what happened to my masters thesis. Only a year's worth of work and research gone. Of course the thesis was on the future of cloud computing (why it was stored there, as proof that it was ready) and I guess the crash will form the basis of the replacement paper with a slightly different conclusion. Hope my prof doesn't mind giving me another year though.
 
Funny. I had access to all MY data last night.
Oh yeah, that's right, it's stored locally :)
 
Cloud or not, data is never safe. People who say good thing i had that saved locally are the first to start searching their emails or something when their drives do crash.

This is like Fukushima blowout.. except on the topic of internet cloud.
 
Well the cloud crashed, and when clouds are on the ground its called fog. So lets see how magical it sounds now.
 
"Dropbox", and many other "cloud services" have you files stored locally too.....so, my advice is simple pick the right "cloud" solution, and not diss the whole technology.

I like the idea of a music locker, but I haven't pounced yet.
I figure it was released too early. Kinda like Microsoft stuff.
I'll wait for the kinks to work out then go.
 
With Easter approaching, this would be the appropriate saying: 'Never put all of your eggs in one basket'. ;)

Because its a buzzword that all the companies, marketing departments, and their commercials all want to you to feel good about.
 
I like how it says "their cloud crashed" which is hardly true. Some parts of it are suffering degradation. Way to sensationalize.
