AM4 HSF on a AM3+?

Will a stock AM4 Ryzen 1400 Wraith HSF fit on an AM3+ FX-8350 / Asus M5A99X-EVO?

I'm going to dedicate an old AM3+ machine to a little home server, but the stock HSF's fan has been making a very slight bearing noise. I have a new Ryzen R5 that I'd like to replace the stock HSF on and it'd be nice if it would work on the old AM3+. I just don't want to go through the trouble of removing the HSF from the Ryzen machine if it's not going to work on the old machine and right now keeping the home server reliable is more important than upgrading the cooling on my Ryzen machine.

I'm not sure if there were differences in the HSF mounting configuration for AM3+ motherboards, but here's the old AM3+ board:

No, the mounting holes are differently spaced. You actually have to remove the AM3 style plastic tab mounting and then screw in the new Wraith cooler into the backplate.
 
I don't mind removing the AM3's plastic tab mount, but are you saying the hole pattern to install the Wraith cooler is different and/or the backplate won't work with my AM3 board?
 
The hole pattern is different. See the Crosshair VI Hero board - it has both mounting holes available and was the primary selling point for me, as it saved me $100+ on having to buy a new AIO cooler for Ryzen.
 
Thanks, guys... this saved me some time. I wonder why "they" decided to change the hole pattern since it's obvious that it didn't need to be done. Here's a pic of the hole pattern change on the Crosshair VI Hero board dook43 mentioned.

"Obvious" to you does not exclude the fact that it most likely had to be changed for engineering reasons. If they could've kept on using the same mounting hardware and preferably even the same coolers they would've saved a ton of money doing just that, instead of re-engineering a new mount and cooler just for the "heck of it".

Personally, I'd like to see what those reasons are as there is such little different it really seems unnecessary.

My guess is it's related to making sure there is equal pressure on the cpu.

I get that, but why didn't they move to a more uniform pattern like the Intel 115X? If they weren't going to make the mounting points equidistant than why change them at all?
