I'm a bit confused, what is am2? is it a dual core cpu? is it better than the other amd cpus out there now and how?

i too am reading up on AM2

i think the main difference is that these chips are heaps cooler than the normal ones. Thats the main / only difference i think.

AM2 is the next CPU socket for AMD. The biggest change is the memory controller, which moves from DDR to DDR2. As far as being faster/better than the other chips, currently they are not. However, I doubt there will be many more CPU's coming out on 939, all the new high end chips will be AM2 only (or so I assume). Also, there are some very nice looking low wattage processors on AM2. I am eagerly awaiting some OC results for those.

Far as dual core goes, there are some dual core, some single core. AMD also braught their Semprons to AM2.
