Okay what do u guys think of this case?
http://www.xpcgear.com/aluminum.html

Any good? Or stay away from? Or the holy grail of cheap sturdy construction :D

Its been awhile since I bought a case and wanted some input, also, what color DVD-Rom would I get to not make this look butt A$$ ugly? Would I need to paint the DVD-ROM?
Or would black do it?

Or does the DVD-ROM hide behind an aluminum panel that can fold down? (don’t see one…)

Also how flimsy is this case?

Never bought Aluminum and wanted to know what the modders thought of it, and how something like this would hold up.

thanks a lot

never heard of the case before...kinda looks like an imitation lian-li to some extend lol.

Aluminum is ok...the good thing about it is that it's light and easy to carry, yet sturdy enough not to break down. Some people say that aluminum acts like a heatsink to take off heat better than steel, but i believe that steels works well too. for 34.99 it's a good price. My aluminum case was 60 hehe. (Antec P160).
The back fan looks like it's sideways....kinda like a Direct heat exhaust system...i dont know how effective that is compared to the normal case fan setup.

Seeing as iv never heard of the case, i cant tell you it it's cheap or not. It looks ok to me, but i'm not an expert. Any of you guys know if the site's cases are any good?

Black on silver doesn't look that bad ;), though it would stick out a little.

That one of the things I’m worried about, I don't want the DVD to stick out like sore thumb, next to all that Aluminum.

I'm wondering who cheesy it will look if I did the black...

I don't want to give my friend something that looks hacked together with duct tape and bubble gum

Just feeling kind of iffy on it.

I like the removable motherboard tray tho! But yeah.. it's probably as thick as a coke can.

There is a company called Skyhawk that makes really nice cheap aluminum cases. That looks like something they would do. I have built a system in one and helped a friend mod one and my case that is on the way is a Skyhawk. The only thing i see that I dont like on the case you linked to is the rear exhaust fan. Doesnt look to effective to me but since you posted it in the modding section, I am assuming that you wont keep it like that for long. ;) I would say go for it and mod the hell out of it. :D

If you buy this case just grab a Lian Li or coolermaster aluminum CD/DVD drive bezel cover. You can buy 'em at most online modding stores like www.frozencpu.com has them, and so does www.silverpcs.com, they are also a great resource for anything to do with Lian Li.

that is a sky hawk case it seems to be made well but go to ebay type in skyhawk some there sell them new for about 40.00 dollars shipped! aluminum!
