What about these makes them worth so much over older GeForce cards? Or are some other GeForce cards I have worth a fortune too?

People love the history and the fact that this was the height of the hype

Only used it for maybe 6 months then upgraded to a fx5900. It was slower than the Radeon but the drivers were stable.

Wait, were these the cards that was going up against the ATI 9700 Pro (R300)? The wall of shame for nVidia? Or am I thinking about another NV card?
The NV30 was one of nVidias biggest failures when competing against ATIs R300. Very interesting historically for many reasons. Also the card is aesthetically beautiful

I can't believe such crappy cards are worth so much. It's not as if they were all that unique either, like any of the higher-end XGI Volari cards.

I had a 5700 Ultra from that period. Such a POS in everything but Doom 3 since Doom 3 was about the only serious game to make use of the weird way nvidia was cheating at shaders at the time.

This is awesome!! ^^

This thread highlights the apparent hype and enthusiasm as it was put on display alongside super models and also the coveted translucent green shroud

Wow. I have one of these laying around as well. I guess I should dig it up. I remember the ATI card of the same era was faster, though?

$3,000 for a standalone video card (I assume that this price isn't even for Complete-in-Box) is pretty surprising. I'll bet that a lot of people dumped their 5800 Ultra's after a few years because of the extremely poor reception that the cards had on release. There was probably a general perception that they would not retain value and so people didn't bother hang on to them. As a result, in 2022, there is minuscule supply of these cards left and thus the high value on the used market compared to other used cards from the same era. On the other hand, I could be totally wrong, it's just a guess.

Regardless, just because I don't understand why they are so valuable doesn't negate the fact that they are and that you obviously have a pretty decent amount of $$$ sitting on your table there. Congrats on completing your collection. :)
