I'm having a lot of problems with my old AGP board, the Abit KV8-MAX3. I had been having some problems with my current video card, an XFX 6600GT nvidia card 128mb, and decided to upgrade a little to a newer radeon card, Diamond X1600 512MB.
First, let me explain the old card's problem. Any sort of video crashes the system, but games work just fine. The card was RMA'd and they found nothing wrong with it. I fixed this problem by using some older drivers (84.43 is the newest that works for me).
Well I get the OS prepared for a new card, and plop it in and the motherboard posts, but stalls immediately after detecting hard drives and PCI cards. I put the old card back in, update the bios for the motherboard and put the new card in again, still nothing.
Are these problems related to the AGP slot on my motherboard, or even the chipset I'm using? Maybe it doesn't allow for the higher memory on the newer card? Or some new feature that's in the newer drivers?
