Anyone have a good source for decently priced Xbox One pads? I'm looking for new ones from Microsoft, but I don't care about the color scheme. For years I've been buying black or white ones from Best Buy or Amazon for $39. I can't seem to find one for less than $65 from a reputable retailer. Anyone have any insights where to look?

$60 USD is the base price of the Xbox One controller. Wired Xbox 360 controllers were $40. Only ones that sell for less are cheap third-party brands like PDP.

When did they go up that high? I looked at the receipts for the last 4 I bought (2 on Amazon, 2 from BB) and 3 were $39.99. One was $35.99 from last summer. These are definitely the Microsoft ones, too.

Anyone know of any discounted ones then :p ? My BB doesn't have much of anything in stock and Amazon doesn't either.
I don't exactly feel like dropping $60-70 right now when I know the new models will be out at the end of the year. My current one has definitely seen better days, but it still mostly works okay. The right stick just has waaay less tension than it used to.

You can buy buy third party wired ones for like 25-30
I'm actually using it from 15 feet away from my PC, so that's not really feasible. Outside of something like Hori I'm also a little wary of 3rd party stuff.
I think I'm just going to ride this horse until it dies if there are no obvious places to keep getting new ones for under $40.

Those were probably sale prices (MS regularly prices their controllers down).

My best advice would be to wait (if you can) until MS has them on sale again. I'm betting, with XSX right around the corner, there will be a decent hardware sale campaign throughout summer. Flipside, coronavirus might keep the price bumped up high too.

I wonder if a USB extension cable works.

Anyways if you do get a new controller spend the extra $5 for one of the controllers with the textured back.

My local Gamestop locations look like they have a couple official controllers in stock for less than $40 listed as "new." Always need to inspect what you're buying from them though, so they don't sneak a used or refurb in on you.

Never cheaper than $75 for me. I need new ones as the kids have dropped them 1400 times and the drift is something else.

But there is no fucking way I'm paying nearly $90 with tax.

Well, if you don't have kids I think paying the higher initial cost of $179 for the Elite controller is worth it. All the base controllers are trash, so you'll save money in the long run.

The Elite one scares the hell out of me. One of my friends bought the original one and he broke the right bumper (just like the normal pads often do) in just a few weeks. He contacted MS and they basically told him "too bad." I think they offered him something like $20 off another one, but that was it. I know people fix those things, but I'm not dropping that much money for something I have to fix myself. At that point I could just get a fleet of used normal ones.
They claim the newer Elite is more durable, but I've never really seen any mention of the bumpers specifically.

Going on 5 years on my original Elite, no issues. All of my standard controllers have had sticky buttons and/or stick drift out of the box.

Still using a who knows how old x360 wired pad on my pc. Never has degraded at all. Are the xb1 ones that bad?

Yeah, they have been for me. I still have all 4 Xbox 360 pads I ever bought and they're all fine. 2 of those were from launch day, too. The one I used most has lost a little bit of resistance in the left stick over time, but they're otherwise great.

With the X1 pads, the bumpers are flimsy and prone to breaking. The sticks are a little more "springy," but that dissipates over time a lot quicker than the 360 sticks did. Buttons get stickier since the controller is more hollow and you actually end up pressing them in slightly. After a few months they start to creak like an old house in a windstorm, too.

IMO they're better out of the box, but they go south much quicker. The bumper breaking basically renders the controller mostly non-functional, while the other stuff is more of a slow deterioration.

I can't say I've worn down a Xbox One pad myself but my son has gone through multiple controllers (dude plays a lot more games compared to me, though).

Ironically, the controller that came package with my One X Scorpio Edition is the worst out of all the base controllers I've had so far. It literally has every issue ever reported on the controller out of the box.

Maybe you should use the case that it comes with. The sticks won't pop off the controller unless you throw it or something.
