Aerocool Easywatch?

Has anyone used one of these?

I picked one up as I found it locally at Microcenter, and it was cheap. I want it to hold me over until the Corsair Link units come out.

I have a small issue with it, I was hoping someone might have a solution for.

It ramps up the case fans when the measurements get hot - as it should - but th eproblem is, it doesnt ramp them up, until it hits the alarm temperature, which means the unit starts beeping.

I wanted this thing to just turn up the fans when needed, and turn them back down when not needed, not beep at me. If I set the alarms higher, the fans just stay at the lowest speed the whole time.

The unit does not have a way to turn off the audible alarm (at least not documented in the manual).

Can I just locate the sound emitting component on the board and cover/crush/cut/destroy it somehow? Does anyone know what that component looks like?

Ack, noone has any ideas? This is driving me absolutely nuts.

The temp will rise, alarm will be triggered and then the fan will spin up, silencing the alarm and lowering the temp within 3 or 4 seconds. Then when the fans spin down again, the alarm goes off again within 3 or 4 seconds.

Repeat over and over again.

If I raise the temp target to avoid the alarms then the fans never speed up.

It's a flawed product in this regard.

I'm going to have to pull it out, see if I can find the tone generator and kill it!

if I would have to take a wild guess it would be the black cylinder piece on the lower left hand side of the board. My digidoc's beeper looked like that but was open in the center.

You are right. While I was offline I took it out and looked at it, and that appeared to be where the noise was coming from. The openings were on the bottom.

I filled the openings with hotglue and then covered the thing in hotglue. Its a lot more quiet now, but still makes noise.

I wonder if ripping it off with through off the circuitry at all...
