Advice

Depends on the model

I'd say no

in theory yes you can.

however with low clock speed, small shader count, high heat output and the usual limitations of laptop cooling i wouldn't - you will very likely fry your laptop as well as miss most of the deadlines.

As far as killing the lappy goes...heat is not an issue...I've liquid cooled my lappy (see pics below) :D

However, I don't want to miss deadlines, so may just use as a cpu folder

+1 nom for [H]ardest laptop evar!!

holy shit guy

the deadline for a p5767 353 pointer is 2 days. sure cant hurt to try sense your cooling is covered

Whoa! At first I was going to say no, because I had a 1520 die on me (thanks to this). However, it looks like you have the situation under control.

You should take more pics, do a quick write-up, and post it in the Watercooling sub-forum!

+1 [H]ardest Laptop cooling solution ever!

Some of the pics didn't come out too good

Wow

It'll give you about 1 ppd per mhz. So 1000 ppd at 1000mhz shader clock. which isn't bad, but in using it, my UI was too baggy to make it worthwhile to me.

Wow. Just wow. If I could put my lappy under WC, I could OC the crap out of it. That is just way frickin' cool.

Anyone else think those pics should be on the front page?

If I could, you know I would :D however these Dell lappys are not cpu overclockable...it is gpu overclocked beyond all recognition :D

This laptop deserves a medal

Larry Is Crazy.

Definitely. It's pretty damn [H].

Thanks!

in theory you could but you cant actually fold on that 8600m because its not an 8600m.. its an 8400GS which you might get it to fold if dell modified the naming of the gpu to trick the fah client but it wont even finish a 353 pointer deadline..

I've had a Gateway laptop with a 8800m GTS folding for 2 years. It's not Overclocked, but has posted some impressive numbers slowly but surely.

Just added the following pic to my liquid cooled lappy thread...hopefully will stir up some new folding members ;)

Protip: Don't use the viewer. It will significantly slow down folding performance while open.
