Ok guys, i need advice on the best sound card for High Fidelity audio, Audio Composition, Processing, Editing, Recording, Playback, etc. i will be using a soundboard, and recording equipment with the computer, so i need the best setup i can get for this type of audio processing and recording. i will be including this in a build but audio is first and foremost in this build

ok if no one really knows about this type of audio, is there another forum where i can get some good information on this topic?

It could be that the people who know about this aren't on right this minute. I find that it's best to ask the question, and come back to it the next day, on this forum.

Budget?

Looks at products from RME, Lynx, M-Audio, and E-MU.

And ESI...

By the way, Guitar Center has some stuff in this area so you can go there and play with some of it if one's local to you.

If you're looking for an input and output interface for recording and playback then depending on how many inputs will you need and what type of connections i would personally look at 1 single external interface to avoid lag problems.
How many inputs will you need and what type of connections? What's the rest of the setup like? (e.g. how many monitors etc). What DAW are you using?

im using pro tools as the main software with reason and kompakt as the patch software. also i was looking at the stuff here (http://www.soundsonline.com/home.php). i played around with their Hollywood strings program and it was pretty BA. as far as how many inputs and outputs/ connections im not exactly sure just yet. i need to go through my stuff and see what i have and need, so i will get back with that.

For a soundboard i was looking at avid's boards. not sure if they are the best though so open to suggestions there. http://www.avid.com/US/categories/Control-Surfaces for channels on the board.. 48 would be ideal so i could have 1 per instrument in the orchestra but my budget most likely doesn't allow for that.

I'm probably going to have two monitors for sure but not positive. well see as the build fleshes itself out more. most likely will be putting an i7 with 8 or more gigs of ram. 2-3 1tb hdds to allow for backup.

48 Channels? Woah ok serious shit here then.
Are you planning on recording each of these channels separately? If so i think you may be asking in the wrong place.
I was going to suggest a rack mounted interface like the ESI ESU1808 which will allow for 18 high quality, low noise inputs with very little lag for a home studio or even the RME Fireface UC which is amazing, especially for its size.
But with that many channels and a huge soundboard, depending on which one and what it does i have no idea what you'll need i'm sorry. Hopefully somebody else here will have some ideas but i suggest you go ask a different forum that specialises in music studios to be honest.

lol i mean 48 is i wish, not practical. that rack you suggest looks good acctually but i was really wanting to leanr more towards a soundboard where i can control levels manually on the board itsself ( a level control board). if this is a better option then id be happy to hear. also this is my first personal recording setup (ive worked with many others but never have had to set them up) would i stil lneed that ESI with a level control board (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...D18_UNIVERSAL_Helix_Board_18_Universal.html)? also do you have any others so i can have options?
