Advice on NES HTPC

Hi Everyone,
I want to put a HTPC in my old NES. This is my first time to have a case project like this, so I figured I'd go to the pros. I was hoping you guys could give me an opinion on motherboards and such. I was gonna use a Zotac board that has onboard HDMI and surround sound.

I've seen a few of these around, they're pretty cool, very doable.

I wouldn't go with a Zotac board personally; I've heard many less than satisfactory reviews about them. There are plenty of other mITX boards on Newegg, etc.
 
I prefer AMD because my friend is giving me a spare fx62 chip. But if necessary i can go the intel route.
 
you might run into a problem cooling that chip in an nes case.
 
You may want to consider something even smaller, such as a this Pico-ITX setup. Expensive, sure, but potentially worth it for a small and cramped environment.

Then don't bother, you're going to have nothing but cooling issues once you spend all the time to mod the NES case just to find out that you wasted all that time by shoe horning a lava hot chip into a tiny, tiny airflow starved enclosure.
 
I have to partially agree. Cooling a 125W CPU even in a normal situation is difficult but an NES case would even need active cooling for a 45W CPU and to get it to even 65W Would require a massive underclock and undervolt potentially ruining its HTPC value.
 
I suppose that I'll be shopping for a low wattage chip too. Another question, what do I do with the power supply? Do I just run the cable inside and keep it sitting next to the nes?
 
I would try to get by using PicoPSU to save space. You'll need an external power adapter, but that will still be easier than having an entire PSU outside the case.

The Pico-ITX setup I linked to earlier has an onboard power supply and all you need to provide in an AC/DC adapter to connect to it.
 
That picoitx setup is absurdly expensive. Supporting VIA is not worth the price.
 
I've settled on the ASUS board posted by Jesse, but how do I connect a laptop dvd burner to the motherboard. Will it use SATA or IDE? Will I need an adapter?
