Advice on Cooling E8400

with my sunbeam core contact freezer i was getting 33-36 idle depends on ambient(65 f - 80 f) loads at 44-47... 3.8 overclock just add 2c to the temps...my guess is the vendetta 2, or xigmatek s1283 if u want the best coling under 40...sunbeam core wont fit without mod in ur board...also consider some bolt-through kit for a secure hsf..

For $50, u can get a damn good hsf. I recently purchased a Vendetta 2, pretty much exactly like the xigmatek (i was going to buy one) :p but i found a great deal on mine. Works really well. Got mine temps down more than 14C at load. Got mine from microcenter for $22 after rebate with in-store pickup. Look into it if you have one nearby.

I'm going to have to take some pictures of my case and directions fans are going for you guys to critique. I would have no idea how to point that Xig* :p

I'll bump again tomorrow night with pics and arrows.

Subtotal: $43.98
Shipping: $11.60

Ouch.

$10 MIR

Yeah!

Suppose I'll just get the Xig.

With the fan blowing towards the back (usually)

i would go out and just pick up some new one since its not that expensive, i hear the mx-2 is pretty good only used as5 myself

how does the thermalright ultra-120 extreme compare to the xigmatek?

The TRUE will outperform the Xigmatek. But it costs $15 more than the Xigmatek and doesn't even come with a fan. Add a decent fan like Scythe S-Flex and you're easily paying about $74 for the TRUE plus a fan.

Is that retention bracket for any 775 cooler? My board bends slightly so that might be useful.

ahh alright thanks danny been wondering this since i was going to get a new cooler to replace my $2.54 ocz vanquisher

You can go either with the fan on the Xig pulling air up through it toward the top of the case (pull, don't push -- never push) or pulling air through it toward the back of the case. It could be argued that up is better since convection already causes hot air to rise, but considering the general turbulence already existing inside a case, it's very unlikely to make a noticeable difference either way.

You should still do a little cable management on it :p

I have the Xig, and I love it.. However if you have a 680i with the stock HSF, it won't fit in a front to back airflow orientation. Atleast it didnt' for me.

Not a big A05 fan, because the combination of rATX and a very small case leads to a big area of dead air in the cardslot section. Video card temperatures in particular suffer. If I got that case I'd immediately cut the top out near the back and get a couple of 120mm fans to mount under a 2x120 AC Ryan Radgrillz Stripes or similar grille.
