Hi!

When I finished my build I was left with about 50 eur to spare and I thought of gettong a new mouse or a keyboard.
I am currently using a generic logitech wireless mouse, which ain't bad but nothing special either. For the keyboard I have a an old Razer Lycosa, which I am tempted to throw away. Only good thing about this keyboard is the design and the fact that it has backlighting (which means that the keys are impossible to see either with the lighting turned off or with sun shining in from the window). Other than that it is buggy and dosen't work properly. I tried to return it for warranty but they didn't find any flaws. But thats that.
Now I'm looking to spend 'bout 50 eur ( converts to roughly 50 usd because of the higher taxes in Europe) on something new.
Is there something you could recommend for that price? I know it's not much, but I really need to swap out the keyboard. I'd like something simple, yet good. Not a great fan of the fancy logitech boards with lcd's and all that.
Also, how big of a difference in feel is there between mechanical and "the other" boards?

Sorry for the lack of formatting - posted from a phone.

I always recommend the Cooler Master Storm Xornet or Spawn mice, not sure if they're easily available in Europe, but here in the states they often go on sale for $15-25 after rebate. Really good bang for the buck if you don't mind the shape.

As for keyboards I don't really know, I've used a $10 mini keyboard for like 5 years. I'm adjusted to the layout to the point my APM drops by half when trying to play starcraft on a fullsize keyboard, don't think I'll ever go back.

Besides the Spawn, the G400 without angle snapping would be a good budget mouse, which could be identified via a Logitech logo on its box's sticker(s), but there have been reports stating that the G400's cable was problematic . . .

I do not recommend the Xornet because of its sensor.

I personally think mechanical keyboards make a world of difference. I'd wholeheartedly recommend trying one, if what you're after is a keyboard that just feels nice, without goofy "gamer" features.

Razer has a mechanical that sells for $60 to $80 that I personally like a lot. It's not quite as well made as the Das Keyboard that I have at work, but it's but it's totally fine for home use. I sense you're probably not a fan of Razer, though. There are other brands of mechanical keyboards that I think should fall in your price range, but I don't know of any that are specifically available in Europe.

If you game more than you type, get a mouse. If you type more, a mechanical keyboard will be amazing. Look for older cherry models on ebay. I got my mx8100 keyboard for $25 usd (20 euros) shipped.

Cooler Master's CMStorm series of mechanical keyboards are good starters with very reasonable prices considering the quality, if you want to go for a brand new board with Cherry MX switches (seemingly the current standard for mechanical switches).
