Hey guys, I have kind of been out of the loop lately with builds and new hardware. Let me give you the run down of the specs i'm running now, what i'm potentially looking at doing, upgrading or replacing. My rig now is about 4 years old, I'm running a i7 2600k, asus p8p67 motherboard, 7970 video card, 16gb gskill ram, 650w cosair psu.
Recently a friend of mine picked up a 980, my god that card is a beast and i've now got the itch to upgrade. As far as future proofing goes and bottle necks, should I keep the processor i'm using now with the motherboard, and just grab a 980? I've never overclocked my current setup. I'm also planning on buy two asus 144hz monitors, i want to drive the monitor at over 100fps for some silky smooth gameplay. Or should i start phasing out my motherboard and CPU? Here is what i'm looking at

Asus Sabertooh z97
i7 4790k
Ram : I'm unsure? able to use old or upgrade?
Asus gtx 980
PSU : should be fine?

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

definately would like to keep under 2000 if i buy new chipset and processor, if i only upgrade card and buy my new monitors, of course that would be much cheaper.

I've got two crucial m4 128gb ssd i want to put in raid.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?

You don't need to touch your processor, motherboard, or ram. Assuming that you're pursuing the Asus VG248QE -- but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong -- you need to upgrade the following:

Video cards: Which version of the Asus P8P67 board do you have? If it can support SLI, performance-wise, you're better off with two GTX 970s instead of one GTX 980.

Power supply: Your Corsair (model?) should be fine for one video card, but you should get a new 750 watt power supply if you go the dual-970 route.

SSD: Go with a newer SSD like the Samsung 840 EVO 500GB instead of putting your Crucial M4s into RAID 0.

Help us out here: Tell us the model number of your motherboard, memory, and power supply. And please answer sticky question 8: WHEN are you buying everything?

One more thing: Which version of Windows 7 are you using?

The motherboard i have is P8Z68-V PRO, it has pci-e 2.0 x 16 and 2 cards @ x8, so thats not worth it correct? I'd want two pci-e slots at x16 speeds.

The Crucial M4's i have i've never used, i put them in and couldn't get the raid to work, could use them one at a time no problems, in raid, it would work for about 4 hours then BSOD, I gave up troubleshooting that, asked for help here and got no responses. There might be an update on the bios or drivers that could fix my problem, i dont know.

Using windows 7 pro, and planning to purchase as soon as i figure out a plan, and the best route for me right now.

Not worth spending the extra money to upgrade just for extra/more up-to-date PCI-E lanes. If anything, actually try out GTX 970 SLI first and then see if you need more performance.

You would be cutting it a tad close but that PSU should still be sufficient. See this HardOCP article to see what I mean:

With a heavily overclocked 3770K, two GTX 970s, and a SSD, the system only drew around 450W of power. So your 650W Corsair PSU should be fine. Especially considering that it was Seasonic made.
