Adobe is adding 3D graphics support to an upcoming version of its Flash plug in. Cool…that is if it doesn’t crash, blow-up or compromise your machine on a weekly basis. :p

The move is an important advancement for Flash, a software foundation that eases programmers' difficulties with incompatibilities among various operating systems and browsers. And it'll come none too soon: Flash is under siege by a host of Web standards, and part of that work focuses on 3D Web graphics.

Cool, so CPU usage from Flash will increase exponentially... :p

That, and we'll get new, exciting 3D Malware!

Forgive me I have not read the article yet but... didn't they do this with shockwave a long time ago? I don't see the big deal.

I remember when they make a big deal about hardware 3d acceleration in shockwave when you upgraded it would show a screen to an arcade full of shockwave 3d games, we had to block this because kids would just play games all day and the popup happened for every user at least once.

So they're now racing to make their POS plugin relevant...

the current 3D movement has so much vendor support, but i just don't see customers buying it as much as they are hyping it

Will they need to plug holes weekly? Probably daily now. LOL

I'm confused because Steve Jobs told me I don't need flash.

People won't care. They will be enamored by the 3d laughing hacker pirate skeleton while their drive disappears.

:D

That's actually one area I agree with him on. Not because he came up with the idea, but because I've always hated flash and he eventually came around to the same opinion as mine.

They COULD actually release a stable package for 64 bit Linux distros, but I guess that doesn't really matter anymore.

Even the alpha that I've always used is pretty fickle.

We already have Unity for 3d... why do we want flash for that?

I might have cared a few years ago. With a standardized WebGL release on the horizon, I hope Flash 3D goes nowhere.
