Additional Nintendo Switch Details Dribble Out

Do you honestly believe a completely portable console is going to be close to a PS4?
When specs are announced, Switch will be far closer to a PS3.
Which is pretty amazing for a portable.

I am expecting graphics comparable/indistinguishable to a WiiU, only in a portable, tablet form. No way this can match current GCN consoles, graphically.

Heh, I meant to say the ports should be included in the (post) launch lineup, not necessarily included in the console package.

Which that part is already slightly planned for them. That splatoon game play they were showing wasn't the WiiU version and I guess they have already said that they will be porting some WiiU games over with some enhancements. So people were thinking that video there was of the WiiU ported version, unless they are releasing a Splatoon 2 right away.

I want to know why everyone in their commerical was 18-25 years old. Lets not forget that their biggest demographic by an overwhelming margin has been 6-14 year olds.

Don't you know that because of the hormones in food today that kids start puberty earlier now? Those were in fact 6 - 16 year olds.

the ps4 was released in 2013 the apu is basically 2012 tech in those 4 years since then it is going from 28 nm to 16 nm finFET technology.
What they project for the tegra X2 is 750-1500 GFLOPS of processing power.
The ps4 is 1843 gflops
The xbone is 1310 gflops

except that it is supposed to use pascal so a X2 something below 1050 and the X1 which is supposedly in the dev unit of the switch so below a geforce 945 ish where the ps4/xbone come in around a amd 7750

.75 Gflops for a battery powered tablet would be fantastic. If it hits half what a PS4 can do it will be amazing.

The battery powered thing is relative I hope Nvidia and Nintendo can squeeze more efficiency into it before final revision current rumor puts the battery life at 3 hours it better have quick charge if that's the case... My guess is the soc will have 2 modes portable in which the soc drops a few cores and speed caps to 60%-75% to squeeze out a 5 hour play time but at maybe 720p-1080p 30fps

yes. Wii could play Gamecube games. Wii U could play Wii games. DS could play Gameboy Advanced games. 3DS could play DS games. New 3DS could play 3DS games.

So people had hoped that they could still play their old games on the new system

The reason the Gamecube and Wii remained backward compatible on the Wii U was because the Wii U's main CPU was a direct descendant of the Wii/Gamecube CPUs, which remained based off the (now ancient) PowerPC 750 from 1999. There's a reason why Nintendo hasn't been able to compete on graphics, and that's because it's hung on to a CPU architecture that died just under two decades ago.

But you forget: Mobile form factor, which means power draw is a major concern. Even if it's capable of competing with current consoles [it's not, BTW], it doesn't do anyone any good if the battery only allows 2 hours of use, or if it produces so much heat the CPU constantly throttles. So absolute performance is going to be a good deal less out of necessity.

Understand, this is a replacement for the 3DS; Nintendo is officially out of the console market, and it's silly to compare this to consoles.

That may have been true for the Wii, where the largest demographics were males 6-11 and females 25-34. But the Wii U shifted overwhelmingly to males 18-34.

I don't think it's any coincidence that Nintendo's ad only featured 20-30 somethings. And with the release of the mini-NES a few months before Switch's launch - Nintendo is trying to find their niche with the people who grew up during Nintendo's prime (NES-SNES-N64 era).

I think it'd be really beneficial for Nintendo to offer a $249 bundle (perhaps excluding the dock, and only including the Switch + two JoyCons). Also, if somebody could release a 'clamshell'-like peripheral for the Switch - Seymour would be mightily appreciative.

LMAO at all the people in other forums that think the switch is going to have a top of the line, not yet released, Tegra X2 SOC in it. They would have to sell it at $600 or more to break even. I will be very surprised if it has the same SOC as the shield tablet. Most likely will be a cut down version of shield soc with maybe some added video capabilities. I think it will be equal too, or slightly more powerful than the wii-U. Any extra capabilities will come from the increase in ram.

Regardless, as long as the price is right, I will be getting one. We love our Wii-U. Gets much more use than our PS4, and XOne combined.

But that's just it. It is not a replacement for the 3ds it is to replace the Wii u. As for heat this thing is thick and has a fan port on it... And the soc it is supposedly going to use is a x2 tegra or a custom version of it.

one of the news sites confirmed the dev units have the X1 and speculated the retail units will have the X2. As for cost just how little do you think the MSRP is it is 349 and 499£ which is around your 600 us. The shield has a full X1 the bits of information said about the switch is that it will be Pascal based and Nvidia made a rebuilt API just for Nintendo so it will either end up with a custom X1.5 or just a straight up X2 been renamed the P1. Besides what was Nvidia going to sell with that chip no shields are announced there was supposedly a shield portable that recently went through fcc...

I understand that. That is the reason that the current generation consoles didn't support native backwards compatibility when first launched as they didn't want to deal with that this time like they did before. HOWEVER the question was simply did everyone actually expect Nintendo would allow backwards compatibility. There were a few post made stating that Nintendo has never allowed you to play previous gen games in the new system, which is not true at all. The reason why doesn't matter, you just proved that these people are wrong, Nintendo has allowed backwards capability and thus there is nothing crazy about thinking it would have happen again . That said look at the PS3, it did software emulation of the previous generations to allow you to play older games (once they decided to ditch the more expensive 3 consoles in one original design). Xbox 360 did the same thing, since they changed architecture between the original Xbox and Xbox 360 they had to write custom patches that would allow you to run the Xbox (Pentium 3) games on the Xbox 360 (PowerPC) and have it emulate the old hardware. Same for the Xbox 360 (PowerPC) to Xbox one (AMD "Jaguar"), they just emulate the old hardware in software. So even with a hardware change Microsoft and Sony have both had ways to allow you to still play older games. So that doesn't make it impossible.

Wrong the Wii U had backwards compatibility at launch.

That is true if you consider Wii U current gen. I was referring to the PS4 and Xbox One however and just kind of leaving the Wii U off on its own. Although they are the same 8th generation console. Just hard to consider it the same generation.
