I added a second SSD to my system for Steam games.

I have an X58 board & the only sata slots i had open were red JMicron ports.

I have a couple questions, this vertex 2 is supposed to be fast, but it is only reading at 180MB/s and writing at 80MB/s. Is this because it is running through the JMicron ports?

Also, my main SSD is an intel 510 series & it reads at like 250 and writes at 180 or so...

My intel SSD has a utility that I run the trim function. Does the OCZ Vertex 2 just run automatically unmanaged?

Thanks

It's probably because you got one of the newer Vertex 2 SSDs that are known to be fairly slow.

No he's not. But you should remove whatever you have on Intel SATA2 that is slower (hard drive, DVD drive...) and put it on the JMicron, while putting the Vertex 2 on the Intel.

As for your Intel SSD, I don't think you should have to run a trim utility on it, and certainly not on the Vertex 2. That is, if you run Vista or 7. Those utilities are for XP.
