Hey guys, my question is how to go about adding Raid 0 to my already existing windows 7 system. I'd like to keep Windows 7 as a single drive on my SSD, and use two 500 GB hard drives for the raid array. My problem is that I always get a BSOD when attempting to boot after setting the Bios to RAID. I tried installing the RAID drivers and also did the registry trick, but neither one worked. Perhaps the drivers that I used weren't correct.

Has anybody had this situation before?

Why are you wanting a RAID array?

......Sorry, I'm going to hafta bow out. I see you have AMD and I only know Intel.

I am using AMD, and it looks like it is going to be too much of a hassle to get it working. I did try both of the registry edits found in the guide the fullvietFX posted, but it isn't working. I guess I'll just reinstall windows.

I see you're running AMD but my question was directed at fullvietFX.

AMD RAID is a whole new ballgame than Intel and you can't use the Intel drivers (like most of us do) but you must use AMD stuff.

If I were you I'd reinstall the OS AFTER getting the RAID correct drivers and do some reading on articles like this.

Many say AMD RAID is a PITA and that's why I asked why you wanted an array.

Mechanical drives don't benefit much from RAID and if your thoughts are toward RAID1 for a back-up.....forget about it.

RAID is not a back-up.

Good Luck!

Well I just got a deal on a replacement motherboard for my other computer, so I'll just run raid on that. I'm just going to be using RAID 0 to store the bulk of my files for the time being. Plus I haven't used Raid before, so I decided that it's a good time to learn. But if it's gonna be a big hassle getting it to work with a pre-existing OS install, then I'm not gonna bother with it on this computer.

Anyways, thanks for your help guys!

You can't get any worse for file storage.

I love the learning part but RAID is not a back-up.

Never use RAID 0 unless it is just for OS and you don't mind reloading if a drive fails. Raid 5 is the safe with good performance.

There is a way that always work if you have another SATA controller (integrated on the mobo or a card). What is your mobo ?
