Adaptor or new PSU

Greetings,

I got the Desktop Bundle at the AMD tech tour (ASUS A8N-E). Month's ago I purchased the Aspire DreamX2 case when Newegg ran their 99 cent shipping. After installing the MB I realized the PSU that came in the case is 20 pin and the board is 24. I have been reading comflicting accounts... Should I buy the adaptor or upgrade to a native 24 pin PSU or buy the $5 adaptor?

i would say ger a new PSU, not for the lack of 24pin--but more because i don't trust that make of PSU's and NF4s are pickey about the quality of the power .

a antec with the native 24 pin would be the most logical pick for yous situation. IMHO. :)

There shouldn't be conflicting reports. Facts are facts.

Your board will WORK with only 20 of the 24-pins, but it may be unstable because the voltage on those four extra wires are there to bring more power to different places of the board.

An adapter will work, but the added resistance may drop your voltage by as much as 1%. Although 1% isn't that much, if your voltages are low to begin with; this may cause problems.

So clearly, the BEST OPTION is going to be a power supply with 24-pins. You supply juice on all 24 connectors and you don't introduce the variable of the resistance created by the adapter.

That said, the PSU is those cases aren't the best. But you might want to try it, even without an adapter, at least for now. It will work. But will it be stable? Keep an eye on your voltages and if the PC locks up any or if you get artifacts in your games, let the power supply be your first suspect.
