Ok, I am confused a bit here because I cannot for the life of me figure out why I cannot see any JBOD options in my Adaptec configuration utility. I have one of the Rackable JBOD arrays connected to a 3085 which I have upgraded to version 5.2.0 (build 17342) and I see NO options for setting up the disks as a JBOD. The manual on page 96 says it's in the ACU, but it's not. All I get in the array options for a single drive is VOLUME. I actually don't see RAID 50 or RAID 60 either.

What am I missing here?

3085 can NOT configure a real jbod...
once you add to the raid card configuration, the card will write metadata on each drive..
this is a simple configuration( standalone drive).

if you need jbod.. buy another non-hardware raid card :)... you can see on SSD& datastorage threads..
 
Agreed. I tend to stay away from all Adaptec HBA's at this point, but if you just want a good cheap expander friendly card get an IBM M1015 off ebay for less than $100.
 
Guess that answers that question. I've had issues getting this card to work in my server so I'll just go back to my 8888ELP and deal with the issue of creating an array per drive. At least that one works fine.
