My Main Gaming/Developement box is an i7 965 , if I could only get the unlocked multiplier to stick I could over clock it more than 4072MHz
Does it change while in Windows or only when you reboot?

Looking at the 960 now that the price just dropped, otherwise 930. Don't have the money to drop it on a 6 core, but would love to.
I would save the money for a hex-core when you can afford it. There's just no comparison in folding performance and they will also be dropping in price later this year.

I would just stick with the 930 if you have a Micro Center near you as you can't beat $199 for it. After all, it should overclock pretty decently. Mine is considered a dud, but even mine will hit 3.67ghz if I give it enough juice. Mine won't go past 3.67 though unless I crank up the vcore to unsafe levels, and thus hits a wall there. I have it clocked at 3.46ghz for comfort as I don't like hot running processors.

Best of all, you would have a platform for upgrading to a Gulftown at some point in the future. You could wait a while until you can afford the Gulftown, but that also means that you won't be producing anything while you wait.

Now convince her to send me one :D

Sorry I still have to pay for it!

It changes in windows, once the processor hits full load, even with all the 'power saving' features turned off. Had my own thread about it. The final conclusion is the motherboard has something up with it.

Any idea when the price drop will happen roughly? Looking to build this in the next couple weeks if it all works out.

No Micro Center etc by me unfortunately. Will be planning to water cool it with a pre-built water cooling system (No custom water loop like my main pc). Maybe I should just get the 6-core and make it my primary system and downgrade my existing i7... Hmm...

Unfortunately, I don't keep track of price drops since I purchase my stuff used, but someone here is bound to have an idea.

I'm sure you can find justification for a hex-core, just be certain you can truly afford it, though. Performance in -bigadv is night and day and you can ask others here with Gulftowns who will attest to that. If you'll see a major improvement in productivity with important apps you use often, that alone may justify the upgrade. It really depends how much you'll benefit all around and how important folding is to you, which is essentially the same advice I give to people considering the SR-2.
