Achieva Shimian QH270| $400 IPS 2560x1440 Korean Monitor

On the basic stand, from the desk to the top of the monitor, is it still ~45cm for the Crossover?

The Crossover is adjustable....I believe the lowest setting for landscape from desk to bottom of monitor is around 2.5", the highest is somewhere around 6". I don't have the figures in front of me, but that is what I remember.

EDIT: I noticed you said the "Top" of the monitor. In that case IDK.

Mine has been at LAX customs since yesterday as well.

I've just accepted the fact that I won't get it till Monday at the earliest. Fucking customs...

Wondering if fedex goes through customs faster? People ordering from samsungmall guy seem to be getting it in three days when shipped fedex. Mine was in San Francisco the second day but been sitting in customs for a day. I won't be surprised if I don't get for a few days after Monday

Before calibration I was seeing 1050:1 contrast which dropped to 880:1 afterwards.

If you do the calibration a certain way you can avoid that kind of thing from happening. Like, if set your backlight first so that you only have to lower RGB in the LUT as little as possible. And checking your LUT that it's not converting RGB 000 to RGB 111 or anything above 000. Some calibration software tends to do that and it hurts the black level thus lowering contrast a few hundred points. What I tend to do is manually clip RGB 1&2 to RGB 0 to ensure that black stays as black as possible. Often video contains "noise" in those 2 shades near black when for all intents and purposes it might as well be black.

Anyway I'm sure you're probably aware of all this as you still have ~900:1 contrast which is very good post-calibration :)

So even the basic stand (LED no P) has height adjustability? Just lacks pivot/rotate?

I know the difference between LED and LED-P were the stand's functions but I wasn't clear which functions that meant. I thought basic stand was a lot dumber...

I know someone with the LED-P model gave the following figures:
At lowest, top of monitor is ~17.75" (45cm) high, bottom is 2.5" (6.5cm).
At highest, top of monitor is ~22.5" (57cm) high, bottom is 7.5" (19cm).

I was wondering what the LED no P model was at default height thinking it had no height adjustability. Anyone have the Crossover LED who can clarify?

Edit: from the OCN topic someone had posted
Crossover 27Q LED - Basic model. input: DVI-DUAL .Stand only allows for tilt function. 8 bit panel
Crossover 27Q LED-P - Input : DVI-DUAL. Full stand functions - tilt , pivot , swivel , heigh adjustment. 8 bit panel

Update on mine:
Inbound Out of Customs

Yay.

Hey, look at the bright side... At least you have something to look forward to all day when you're stuck at work on Monday.

Ok open my crossover led -p . Crappy packaging! I'm surprised the screen was not broken. The power brick was just in a ziplock typ bag and not secured and bounced around while i was carrying it. Also a dvi cable was not included argg!!!! Best buy doesn't either

But how does it LOOK!?

Pics please?:)

Screen looks amazing even with the half ass resolution from my existing single link dvi. Friend is picking up a dual link dvi right now. Other than that I'm happy it turned on. Stand feels cheap can't figure out how to raise it cause it's in Korean ...

Ah so even the crossover stand feels cheap, that is good to know. Looks like I may just get the Achieva, the problem is that tempered glass looks appealing even though I know its a bad idea. :)

Wasn't there a screw you had to loosen in the back to let you change height?

csshih did a pretty credible input lag test on the model with the scaler (Shimian IPSMS) and posted his results in the hot deal thread.

I feel like an idiot. I went and sat down for a formal test and averaged results. - TL;DR, 17 ms input lag.

Anyways: new test setup, I don't have another native 1440P monitor so the panel's scalar feature *IS* kicking in.

I'm comparing with Dell U2312HMs which supposedly have an astoundingly low 0.6ms of input lag.

Here are the results.
lMxiM

I am using SMTT V2.0.4.0

This is the fully featured 10bit "QH270-IPSMS" (supposedly, I need to get a firepro/stream or quadro for that testing) version of all the ebay models with AD board(scaler), OCR, DCR(though it was off for this test), and has hdmi, vga, and dual link dvi (which was used for this test).

From this I can say that the input lag is 17ms - worst case. Not bad achieva, not bad. I'm one step closer to importing a crate.
of course, I'll be sending this unit out to a few gamer friends to test. the colors are wonderful, but this is [H]!

C
Exactly 1 frame of lag, (1 frame = 16ms) and running a non-native resolution which will 'sometimes' add a few ms to the results. That's pretty darn good imho and nothing for 99% of us to cry about.

That is the response time, not the input lag. The displays without OSD/extra inputs don't having scaling so they will not have any input lag. Those with the OSD/extra inputs will have around 18ms (1 frame).
NCX you were right on the money.

the stand is in korean?

I'm hoping someone with the Crossover LED can tell me if the height of the monitor is the same as the LED-P model in it's lowest setting (i.e. top is 45cm tall and bottom is 6.5cm tall). I don't want it too far off my desk since my desk is kinda high.

The Shimian is about 48cm tall and the Catleap is roughly an inch taller.

Fedex actually acts as their own broker when shipping internationally. This means that the package has usually already cleared customs by the time it gets to the states. This is what makes them sooo much better for shipping than alot of other carriers.

While UPS has a similar program, it is something you have to pay extra for. Fedex does it automatically if you check a box in the shipping slip.

yay mine is out of custom and processed through sort facility. I cant fricking wait for this thing.

Care to tell us who you ordered from?

75hz at lower resolutions, all LCD's have been like that. I'm thinking that's a typo on that page ( People thought the same thing about the Crossover 27Q's and they don't overclock ).

There isn't some magical Korean technology they're hiding from other manufacturers. It just happened to be one combination of parts that weren't limited somehow that let people overclock them. Don't expect any other LCD to perform the same feat.

Some guys on OCN are trying to source those parts and potentially overclock more LCD's. We shall see though.

That 30" display has a 102% color gamut. I think I'm pretty much done with anything that's not SRGB. Too much hassle doing color management in Windows.

What do you think the price would be? If it's around $800 shipped, I'll be the first in line.

It's listed at $680 US on gmarket, the other 30" Crossovers are listed at $1,000 on eBay and go for about $750 on gmarket.

So maybe $900? Even then it's very unlikely it'll do more than 60hz.

FYI, $370 is a go on the tempered glass achieva with dcsamsungmall :)
I wonder if $350 is acceptable :p

Anyways, please report back on the condition of the monitor. Hopefully no dust or pixel issues. The tempered glass is so enticing...

Will do.

My original offer of $365 was auto rejected so this may be as low as you can go for a non leaning stand from dcsamsungmall and his fast associated shipping.

looks like the 30" is glossy.

I guess I am the only one who bought from red-cap. He accepted 415$ for the crossover with the good stand..

Torn between shimian and crossover, is there any big difference between them at the moment? I only know that the crossover is one of the newer models but haven't heard any new improvements

They all use the same panel. None of the units can now run past 60Hz at native resolution. If you need a decent stand, the Crossover LED-P model is the way I would go. Over wise the cheap non tempered glass models should be fine. red cap or the skull seller seem to be shipping the fastest and using Fedex. Greensum has been a bit slow on shipping lately, but as long as I get a near flawless panel the extra wait is no big deal. I ordered the 11th, and my package has left customs here in CA. I should have it Monday, but I will not be able to pickup till Tuesday probably due to work.

I put in an offer of 370 on the Tempered Achieva from DCSamsungmall, lets see if he accepts.

I know the risks with the tempered glass but really like the aesthetic. The monitor will be going on an arm so the stand is of no consequence.

Stupid Question rtype but does this one come with vesa. Read almost whole thread however I am so confused about seemingly dozens of models. Hope you don't get dust:)

I've been following both threads here as well as the one over at overclock.net. I've seen a couple people ask about displayport models but I don't remember which thread or which site... I don't remember seeing any replies about it either. I was looking though dreamseller's auctions and stumbled across the Achieva Shimian QH270-IPSTDP. Price is $767.90.

Can anyone tell from the pic below if this is a tempered glass model?

I lurk over at overclock and am too lazy to register. Would someone cross pollinate this if it's new info? Thanks.

Thats a hell of a markup though for the 1 and only additional port that most people care about..

Ideally I would like to see one with a DP only option for close to the original HDMI dual link price. It would be ideal given the want/need for eyefinty (not sure if NV surround is going to require 1 DP as well).

Well, as far as I can tell this is a new offering. Maybe the price will go down once people start making offers, other sellers stock it, sale volumes go up, etc...

I wouldn't have blinked at that price before discovery of the "for testing only" text on the panel labels but now I'm wary. I won't risk that much until more facts come to light.

DP-only is a very tiny market. I don't think you're going to see any DP-only models unless someone has custom input boards built.

I'd like to see a model with DP + HDMI + DVI without an included stand for under $400.

All those ports mean it has a scaler, which means it's going to have input lag. It would have to be cheaper for me to be interested, not more.

I doubt prices are going to fall on one with that many ports. Its too much of a niche.

As far as DP only, virtually every AMD gaming card in the last 3 generations would be fine with that. I think most nV's made int he last few years as well (not sure on the nV side though). For an Eyefinity setup though with these you need at-least 2 monitors with DP (since only one of your DVI ports will be dual link) so it doesn't seem like a stretch to me at all.

As far as a DP, HDMI, DVI-D for under 400... hell yes that would also still be a deal, but I would rather not have the input lag.

Unless the mythical dp only monitors appear, it would seem more desirable to just grab an achieva or catleap and an active dp/dvi adapter to connect it.
