ok so i am trying to restore a friends laptop, i tried using a windows vista ultimate dvd that i had, and when it got to the loading screen, it just stayed there, for 8 hours, i restarted the laptop and now you have to choose between windows setup and windows vista basic.
I am now trying to run the acer erestore and it wont work, after it reboots i choose windows vista basic and it takes me back to the desktop
 
Reformat the drive and start again?

Why are you trying to restore the laptop in the first place?
 
how with what? i only have the acer e restore and its not working as i explained and because its times for it its got all kinds of spyware and stuff

You have a Windows Vista Ultimate CD. It should have all version of Windows Vista on that disc. There should be CD Key on the bottom of that laptop. So reformat with that Ult CD, input the CD key, and there you go.
 
i have already tried that, i explained that, it got to where it loads the little status bar, like every time you boot a vista machine, and sat like that for 6 hours and then didnt do anything
 
I had one that had similar issues and it was do to a failing mobo. run memtest and check the hdd for errors.

Ahh couldn't understand what you were trying to say.

Anyway, if that laptop has 4GB of RAM, uninstall the second 2GB set and try reinstalling the OS again.
