Ace Combat fans will have to wait until next year to play Skies Unknown, the next game in the long-standing arcade (I don’t know why people call it a sim) flight franchise. AC7 may be of interest even to those who have never delved into the other games, as it is expected to be a significant vehicle for PlayStation VR. I mean, looking around in a virtual cockpit and blowing things up with missiles seems like an engaging-enough experience to me. A new demo will be shown at E3.

Ace Combat franchise director Kazutoki Kono announced the delay in a personal letter addressed to fans, saying he and his development team Project ACES need more time to realize the vision they have for the title. "We would have loved to launch Ace Combat 7 at the end of 2017 as we originally intended, but doing so would compromise our goal for the game," Kono explained. "We take our art very seriously and that means we have instead chosen to devote additional time and effort to perfect and optimize this newest chapter of the Ace Combat saga."

I'm so fucking pumped for this game. I played every Ace Combat except the dancing with angels shit and assault horizon. In a perfect world it would have PC VR support but I'm sure it won't. Maybe someone can hack it later down the road though.

I'm happy they're delaying rather than rushing it. I hope the PC port gets good treatment. Ace Combat games have always looked excellent for the hardware they've run on. Very few bugs to. No need to tarnish that reputation now. Never got to play AC6, or the Japanese version of 3 (I read the story online a while back) and I am looking forward to the next chapter. Seems to fit between 4 and 3 timeline wise... hopefully it will be excellent.

Too bad VR support is a PS4 exclusive. And yet another bite-sized experience, at that. They said that they didn't want full VR support in the campaign because of the cutscenes...

It also has to do with how the business types think/want VR to be. They want VR and head movement to move the character and whatnot. The best way this will work in a flight game is simply how it works in flight sims - it pans the view in your cockpit. But to many business types, or even casual gamers, that seems "lame". So you either have a choice of:

    - Ruining the whole game by making it into a gimmicky, short experience
    - Making a proper title that is full length and fun, with a tacked on component

And then there is the other problem regarding the PS4's performance. It won't be able to keep up in regular missions. PC it would be fine though if the implemented it like Track IR/Vive in DCS. But seeing as Sony appears to be pumping some money into it I imagine they will force VR to be PS4 exclusive.

I'm still confused by the mentions of VR only being in part of the game on PS4. Flying is 90%+ of the gameplay. If that's not the VR part...
