Abstain From Buying!!!

I'm going to wait. I want more motherboard choices, and I also have to replace my AGP videocard so I want to see what new cards will be coming out. Maybe I'll wait for the first price cuts on the CPU's too, who knows. I'm not in a rush, but I do want to upgrade in reasonable time.

I am going to wait and use my sons Pentium D930 until the conroe drops to £200 , that is the E6600.
Its only another 10 days before that happens , i hope.

Well, I'm gonna wait till the next gen of processors as I don't have the money or need to upgrade right now.

Hey Donnie, any idea if the 3rd party IDE on any of the 965 boards will cause issues when trying to install Windows (since most people aren't using SATA optical drives, and thus will be connecting the drive through the single IDE connector)?

IMHO, old school folks use to use add-in RAID and UDMA PCI controller cards will have fewer problems than folks who never work with them will. So, make you get an i965P with plenty of PCI slots. Like the $150 plain Jane P5B. I still have a Promise and an Iwill that works laying in my parts bin.

Intel should have waited for better SATA support before ditching it's own IDE controller. Maybe they should have invested in a couple of the optical compnies like Liteon and NEC. This would have cost them less than the BIllion they GAVE away to RAM manufacturers.

I've tried 3 different SATA to IDE converters on my Drives, they don't work! I have the one that came with my ABit mobo IC7-G, Iwill S2I and a Generic one leftover from someone else's upgrade. The Optical folks need to get off their asses. Yet, another delay to drive up costs of another piece of hardware. Guys, it's getting real old real fast.

Hehehe AMD is looking better each day.

Because lower prices = higher demand.

Would you rather sell 100 CPUs for $300 or 200 CPUs for $250?

Awesome, you can multiply. Too bad that's not the only part in determining profit. It depends entirely on how much they have to pay to buy their supply. If it costs them $201+ per chip, 100 cpus at $300 is more profit than 200 @ $250.

100 x $99 = $9900
200 x $49 = $9800

This is considering the Core E6400 estimated 1000 qty price is $224 (that is, if were actually trying to make a real tie-in with your comparison. i'm only assuming though), then they would definitely prefer the 100@300 sales over 200@250...

screw this, I'll pay $40 over the msrp to get it now. Also bought my mobo for $150, not exactly a bargain but only about $20 over what I'd normally pay. (E6300 + DS3)

My SKT939 should last me well into Spring 2007, then I'll pick-up a Conroe for cheap (if the price does indeed drop).

I don't plan to buy until September-December. Not so much for the E6600, but I'm waiting to see what else comes out in the mobos, etc.

I've been ready to pull the trigger on a new comp for over a year too :(

Yeah... it will be tough. :(
but we must hold out!

cheers
:D

No. Save up your lunch money.

I don't get why people feel they must go out and purchase a new chip ASAP even if it means paying a premium.

Because we have systems with AGP graphics cards that can't be upgraded any further, and we want to upgrade sooner rather than later.

When you're spending $1200 or more to fully upgrade your system, $20-30 price premium on a chip doesn't really factor in all that much.

20-30 for cpu, 30-40 for mobo... and there you have a free heatsink!
or a better graphics card.

BUY BUY BUY!! NOW NOW NOW!! MORE MORE MORE!!! Its the best chip ever.

Ok, hehe enough of that crap, i'm just wanting my Intel stock to go up :D .
