My brother is looking for a new laptop and has very simple requirements: 1) Reliability 2) No-hassle wireless connectivity. It will be used exclusively for word processing and web surfing. I don't own a laptop myself and don't plan to so I'm not real familiar about what's out there.

Anything at or around $400 out there for a barebonesy type of laptop?

There's not that many $400 laptops around. You're gonna have to look around the web for deals like that. Ebay is a good palce to look for cheap laptops. In fact, here's a link:

http://computers.listings.ebay.com:...QsbrftogZ1QQsocmdZListingItemListQQsofocusZso

You may wonder I listed $300 as the max price: Don't forget about shipping! In addition, every laptop listed in that link has at least 512MB Ram for better multitasking. NOTE: make sure the Ebay laptops include a battery, AC adapter, and an OS as well.

check to see if best buy, comp usa, circuit city, and/or fry's have any good deals

not sure how reliable a $400 notebook will be

If you watch the Sunday sales at Office Depot, you'll find some good cheap deals on Laptops. I bought my sister a Toshiba Satellite M115 for $399 back in October. If you time it right and get there early, you can snag a deal
