Abit unlockes P4's

CPU Accelerator allows users to run their 800MHz FSB CPUs at a 1066MHz Front Side Bus.

Seems that it just lets you up the bus to 1066, it never said it unlocks the multi, but heavily implies it

its not a CPU mutil unlocker, but an FSB unlocker? dont mobos already do that?

maybe it lowers the multi (can't p4's normally do that?) so compensate for the high FSB?

That's why i said it's misleading. If Abit managed to unlock the multiplier on the P4, why wouldn't they be more direct and just say it?
 
Given that the FSB multiplier is set in the silicon by "blowing" internal micro fuses after test, I'd think it would be impossible for the motherboard to change that.

Sounds like they are fiddling with the FSB....just like we do all the time.

Looks like Intel is shipping the 550/560 with x14 unlocked. The motherboard isn't really unlocking anything special.
 
i got the bios for my AG8 and theres a 'select multiplier' option now, but i can only choose from 14 to 14 :mad:

i don't think there's anything sneaky about it. they are saying the multiplier is unlocked and can be changed. the part about the fsb is that you can now run a higher fsb without running the processor out of spec

Look at the toms article above.. all it does is let you chose the default mulitplier or a 14x mulitplier, no other options.

It's misleading because as you may have discovered if you read the above posts, it's not fully unlocked in the traditional sense that most enthusiasts would expect. Steve posted a news blurb regarding this on the front page yesterday and I was pretty confused about it too, at first I figured it was just a FSB tweak with a jazzy name/PR but pxc found some more half-truth to it. Obviously not a full unlock though, and it seems it'd be of no benefit for slower parts.
 
Since VapoChill released their socket T upgrade kit, it will be interesting to see how Intel 3.46EE will scaled up (at -51C evaporator temp) with one of these Abit mobo (compared to FX55). At least, enduser will have few options for high end system (especially Nforce4 will be available at retail channels by early Dec.)
 
It doesn't seem to unlock, but rather 'optomize' FSB and drop the multiplier. You still can't rise the multiplier above factory level.. Sooooo...

Still, if anyone would do it, Abit I'd bet on.. Abit rocks..
 
If abit wants to impress me the will release a bios for the ic7max3 that will enable the 14x on my 3.4E D0. Asus did it with there boards.

My 560 can adjust to either 14 or 18 on the multiplier. Here are some results on an AA8 Duramax and with Centon DDR2.

All it does is allow the CPU to default back to 14x by "tricking" it back to defualt of 14. If you have a 3.2 then your option will be 16 or 14, 2.8 will only see 14 or 14. Asus has had this for awhile before Abit published this.
 
I can not get the settings for 1066 to come up, would you mind me telling me how you got your 2.8 higher?

I have a 2.8, DDR2 Corsair and PCIE 6800GT and I just cant get a stable OC at all on this thing. Its not a cooling issue because all the temps are about perfect for Aircooling.

First of all, on any i9X5 Chipset theres an 'overclock' control which only lets you OC 10% from stock, unless you're slick about it, do this:

Turn all unwanted I/O peripherals OFF (disabled) such as serial ports, parallel, firewire, or even sound if you dont use it

loosen your memory timings to 12-5-5-4 for DDR2 or 8-3-3-3 for DDR1

keep all of your voltages at stock EXCEPT for the NB voltage, raise that to 1.8 from 1.5

now, youll see some DDR and 'NB Strap' options, set Nb strap to PSB800 and DDR mode to DDR400 (1:1)

next comes the PCI-E lock, which controls the video card and SATA drives, which im assuming you have at this point. 'Auto' is 100, everything 'works' at 100, which is withins pec, anything over that is over-freq'ing it, which isnt necessarily bad, it wont fry anything, just distort it or disable it if it gets too high. set your PCI-E frequency to 115, that should give you plenty of room for messing around. Especially with an nvidia video card, you can normally handle around upwards of 120, and it seems western digital drives play nicer at higher frequencies too.

with those settings, granted youre chip and memory can do it, you should be able to get up to a 250mhz overclock without the PCI-E locks getting all fucked up.

if that does not work for anything above 220-230, try upping you're DDR2 vDimm by +.1 or +.2 and the cpu voltage up to 1.33 or 1.36, even 1.41 if you're temps allow it (1.41 is the 'max' within spec of the CPU, again more isnt necessarily worse if youre temps are fine)

after you find a nice overclock you wanna keep, try tightening your memory timings one by one until its as low as it can get.

and test it with prime95, superpi, 3dmark01 (cpu), and 3dmark03 (gpu), 3dmark05 (if you like pretty colors)

and youll be set!

for me, the sweet spot was 245x14 for everyday use, but i can do upwards of 250-260 with some higher voltage, but then my temps go up to the 70's and i just cant let that happen.

BTW: the '1066' settings is for abits windows based overclocking crap, personally ide never use a windows based overclocking shin dig, i always do it VIA the bios....if youw ant 1066 fsb, slowly creep up on 266mhz FSB from 200, cuz 266x4=1066
