SO I have I35 PRO and currently running a E6850 C2D. I want to upgrade to a Quad core. I wanted to get the fastest one this board will take. According to the Abit site it will only support up to a Q9550. Has anyone tried a Q9650?

The Q9650 is insanely overpriced, even used. $350 gets you an i7 920 and 6GB of fairly fast DDR3 after rebates... sell your current chip, board, and RAM, and you're looking at maybe $100 more for the move to the newer platform than you were to just get a new chip.

The IP35 Pro should handle any Yorkfield CPU that fits in socket 775. I would honestly be surprised to find out it doesn't.

price isn't an issue. I know a guy who works for intel so I get the chip at their employee price.

hmm ..do you mind if I ask what the employee price is?

..if not , then I will ask you then.."What is the Intel employee price on the Q9650?"

If you're needing a different BIOS, Abit's last download site is here.

I have the same MB/chip combo running @ 3.7GHz and have played with a Q9550 in place of the 6850.

It runs a little smoother but my next upgrade will include a different socket.
