Not only does my computer have the double boot problem, but also on a cold boot the system hangs before seeing the first XP load screen. I press the reset button and everything loads normally. I noticed whenever my IDE pioneer dvd writer is unplugged it doesn't have this problem, only the double boot problem.

for those that don't know what the double boot is, when turning the PC on, the fans start for about 5 seconds, then the PC powers down, then starts up 2 seconds later.

I have the latest BIOS, using the abit flashmenu utility, and manually downloading the bios BIN from abit.

Anyone else have this problem? Or know what I can do about it? Thanks guys

Dual boot isnt a problem, it is part of the system. I have had alot of problems with IDE dvd drives, the only one I have had that doesnt cause boot issues is my Samsung Writemaster DVDRW+DL drive.

no problems with mine and im using ide liteon dvd+rw. specs in sig

sounds like the JMicron/IDE device detection is the problem then, does that BIOS have an IDE delay setting?

As for the double boot - when you shutdown do you just use Windows to shutdown to a "soft off" state or physically switch power off at PSU/socket?

yeah double boot doesn't really bother me, but I have built a few other PC's for friends using the IP35-E, and 2 of the 4 don't have this double boot, so I guess theirs are a newer hardware revision or something.

I'll look into the IDE delay in the BIOS when I get home.

I'm going to try to sell this PC pretty soon, so I'd like to not have this problem with my DVD writer. possibly ill just have to buy a cheap SATA one, and use my pioneer in my next build... I love this pioneer 115d anyway, flawless burning

Thanks for the replies

normally just use windows, but its the same whenever I turn off the PSU

If you physically turn off all power to the mobo (either by PSU switch or at the socket etc.) you are always going to get a double boot on first POST - it's a chipset characteristic as it sets the strap.
If you leave standby power to the mobo i.e. it's in soft off & you are using a later BIOS then you shouldn't get a double boot on future POSTs.

ok, I didn't know that. I just noticed yesterday that after updating the BIOS that I still had a double boot. But that was after I turned the PSU off to swap some RAM. thanks for the input
