A70... or 2 A05's...

So here's what I could do... I could buy 1 A70 and put all of the gaming system, work station, and files into 1 case and system... take that to LAN's and whatnot... have an 800 Watt PSU for all the stuff inside.

Or I could get 2 A05's for the same price, make 1 a file server, and make 1 a gaming/workstation...

I'd save money because I could get a smaller PSU for the work-station, and wouldn't have to lug a server-case to LANs... but then I'd have 2 computers instead of 1...

Still debating stuff, just wondering what everyone thinks... 2 A05's or 1 A70...

I'd put a 3in2 bay into the media server one, so I could fit 7 drives total, 3 in the Gaming/Work Station (2 raptors, and 1 500 gig)

More the merrier. Anybody else use the file server, if so, probably easier to have two separate.

I wouldn't be terribly comfortable with lugging around so many HDDs in a case to LAN parties, and not just because of the weight/bulk. 2 A05s imo Those things are tiny, unless you live in a dorm it shouldn't be a problem!

Mhmm, plus all your media won't be as vulnerable (theft at parties, viruses, damage thru wear and tear of moving the HDDs so much, etc.), and you have a system you can use for basic stuff even when the LAN rig is packed up.

What's the upside of having everything in 1 system anyway? Having two systems when doing upgrades and whatnot on one is a blessing, probably more effective cost-wise in the long run too.

Well, you don't have to have two running systems all the time. Let's say you want to game but don't need watch your ripped TV shows. Well you won't be using as much power if you have less hardware.

OTOH he could power down the gaming system overnight or during the weekday, and that's the one that would consume the most power anyway... 'Sides if he uses the proper S3 standby/hibernate modes on either it's as good as having 'em off.

Can keep 'em in different rooms as well, assuming he lives alone or whatever... Might be more convenient for any number of reasons (PC in the bedroom & living room, or for the sake of heat, etc.).

Haha, well I think that's what I'll do...

2 A05's it is...
Performance-PC's has the new one with side-vents and fan for $130, and newegg has them for $100 + free shipping... so I might order 1 for the media server from newegg, and the PlusII for the workhorse.
Or just 2 from newegg...

right now I have an Antec900 + Foxconn C51 + 8800 GTS + X2 4200 + 4 Seagate 7200, + 2 Raptors, + 2 Samsung burners... Sucks taking it to LANs...

Either way this is gonna be about $1050 when I'm done ordering, without video-card... waiting on the new 9800 GTX...

Also could be nice for rendering HD videos, if I ever figure-out how to use the processin power of the other one... Vegas 8 has options to use networked computers...

I think I could fit the media server to the side of the 17" turn it off at night if I don't need too, I'm not that sensitive to noise though.
