A question for Silverstone TJ07 users

Hello everyone. I am new to this website and spent a few hours searching last night before I decided to post this new post. I have read everything I can about this case, but would like some insight from current TJ07 users. Basically, I am trying to decide on this case for air cooling only. I have loved the look of the case ever since it came out, but haven't gotten around until now to build a new system.

I would like some advise on how this system performs for air cooling only. At a later time, I may step up to water cooling, but it won't be for a while. Now, I understand that the stock fans only will not cool the video cards sufficiently, but I wanted to see if any one has tried the Kama bays or the 5.25" drive bay from Silverstone and whether or not it is helping cool your video cards. Do you have 1 or 2 120mm fans in the front of your case and it is helping the cooling of your system dramatically?

The only information that I have seen about this case is that people are saying it is great for watercooling but not good for air cooling. I don't know if these comments are from people that have tried installing 120mm fans in the front or not. Can people post some of their pictures of the TJ07 with upgrades for cooling so that I can see some ideas to make the vga cooling better? I would appreciate it fellow TJ07 owners.

I would like to buy a case with in the next week or two, so any comments would be greatly appreciated. I wouldn't be writing this thread if I had my question answered from prior threads.

If your going to spend the $ on a tj-07 you might as well take the time to learn and explore with watercooling.

I may do watercooling, but I am a student right now and don't have the time to research water cooling and I don't have the money as of yet to purchase the water cooling equipment. I want a case though that will give me that option in the future, but need it to be sufficient for air cooling at the moment. I have always liked this case from the beginning and that is why I am not looking at coolermaster or other brands at the moment for air cooling cases.

The TJ07 isn't a very good air cooled case from my experience. It's adequate and will do the job but there are many other newer cases now that provide a lot more airflow. The TJ07 is one of the best water cooling cases out there, numerous builds have been done around it.

Did you ever try and install a Kama bay or any other fans in the bay and did it really help your cooling and temperatures?

If you are so devoted to the tj-07 look you should consider a ft01.. I am very happy with mine.

I have the case and would say it is adequate for a normal user for air cooling. It really depends on what you're trying to do however.

If you're planning on just one GPU and a reasonable overclock, then adequate is fine.

If you're trying for something like triple SLI or X-Fire with a massive overclock, then "adequate" air cooling isn't good enough.

I had the 120mm fan 5.25 drive bay from Silverstone and it helped with the cooling, especially as I had it right in front of the GPU's. In my case, I went WC, so didn't matter too much, but if you're going SLI, you could consider it, although I think you can still get away with a 2 GPU SLI/X-Fire without any extra help. But it is definately unnecessary for the one GPU and CPU option however as there is sufficient airflow.

The case is expensive but still a worthwhile purchase if you're 75% sure you will one day go watercooling as it is one of the best for handling internal rads while looking good (no offense to mountain mod fans but IMHO the TJ07 really looks a lot nicer). For pure aircooling some might find it overexpensive given the merely adequate cooling performance.

As per the previous post, if you do like the TJ07 looks but are really going to stick to air, then look at other Silverstone models optimized for air cooling like the FT01, FT02, TJ09 or TJ10....

Thanks for the response. That has cleared up a lot of my questions. I don't think I will ever go with more than 2 video cards, but you never know. If I were to add a second card at some point, I guess I could move on to the watercooling. I am so unskilled and unknowledgeable in this area and would have to learn a lot. My main question is how often do you have to change the water and what are the realistic expectations that water can spill on your components during set up, machine running on a daily basis, and during maintenance/changing the water?

I am still looking at cases like the Lian Li towers, Mountain Mods Pinnacle, and one other that I can't remember the name of. I appreciate your help and information.

TJ09 dude, i love it, my only complaint is that i cant use my front connections because i get so much audio distortion form the mic and head phone ports and im too neverous to install teh FREE replacement from silverstone

Best to ask about watercooling on the watercooling forums. But I tend to change the water once a year or more. Current WC setup has been going over 1.5 years and all I've done is top up the water, not change it. Once properly assembled, on a daily basis, the risk of water spilling is minimal unless you used cheap parts or rushed your initial setup and did not leak test. Most risky time is during setup and maintenance but that's if you're impatient. If you're careful the risk is minimal even during setup and maintence (although still higher than aircooling).

I was leaning towards a tj10 myself, isn't the tj10 newer/better in any way? Anyone try to water cool the tj10? Yet I am considering the tj07 case for a i7/5850 system, upgrade to murdermod parts as I go would be sweet... But is this design a bit older or is it still the cats pajamias? How does the fortress ft02 change this landscape? I will air cool for two years then go watercooling. Should I bother with this case or get the fortress 2 and replace the case when I want to go watercooling? Like is the air cooling ok for now for my non overclocked parts gaming (I will not get the 800d for example, too hot for air cooling, I am willing to buy fan stuff, bay fans whatever, but I need more intakes than the 800d provides imho).

and where is the tj11, its been a few years...
