I bought an open box dual G34 board a couple of months ago, with the intent of waiting till Bulldozer comes out and grabbing a pair of those. Since I've been home waiting on work for so long, I got a little bored and decided to build it up.

I didn't want to spend a fortune on some of the 12 core chips, so I picked up a pair of the 2.0 Ghz 8 cores. Just got it set up, Linux installed and am currently working on a 6903. PPD is around 100k. I'm thinking hard about taking the 2 480GTXs offline to offset the electric bill. This would leave me with an SR-2, Dual G34 and i7 920@4.0.

I'll post a picture here in a bit. It's nekkid for all you pervs.

Here it is in all it's glory

Damn, another naked folder! It is like the entire multi-processor crowd here don't mind flopping their circuitry to anyone out there.

Either way, are those Noctua coolers? They look really nice! I didn't know that a pair of 2.0ghz 8 cores would do so well as $250 each isn't a bad price at all. Considering that my single Gulftown only gets 40-46k ppd doing regular bigadv, that is a steal! Now I can't wait to see what you'll do once the Interlagos 16 cores come out.

Don't happen to know what kinda wattage it is pulling.... do ya?

I'm still collecting cans and bottles to get money for my processors. ;)

Noctua coolers. They were the only ones I came across on NewEgg that weren't 5000RPM turbines.

I'm really looking forward to the Interlagos chips myself. Maybe build a 4P system with 64 cores early next year...

Is that the 80mm? What temps have you seen? I just bought the 120 mm for my new toy, and they look much more space limited. If my ISP would actually work, I would have some frame times by now.

That is what I thought as you definately cannot mistake the color theme of Noctua's stuff. It definately looks impressive, especially considering that there isn't much available for servers. Those POS dynatrons I hear are indeed annoyingly loud.

You and me both. You were one of the biggest reasons why I splurged for a Gulftown back then, and I have to say that it has been worth every penny I scraped together for it. The lesson I have learned though, is that I need to pay more attention to fleabay to see what is available. I am hoping that i'll be able to snap up some budget G34 processors or maybe even some extra spicey chips when Bulldozer comes out.

It is a pretty hideous color scheme...

Yeah, 80mm. No idea on temps as I haven't delved into installing any sort of temp monitoring app. I don't know crap about Linux.

It isn't that bad. I would prefer different colors, but Noctua's brownish/beigeish theme is pretty unique as you immediately know that it is a Noctua.
couple fan replacements fix that

I love those Noctua G34 coolers even though they are just overpriced rebadged versions of their existing coolers.

100k is really impressive for $500 worth of CPUs. You figure you can snag one of those mobos for $250 open box at newegg, then probably $120 worth of RAM, old hard drive and a $60 psu and you have 100k PPD for $930 or less.
