So about 2 years ago now maybe, I remember trying to download a game through a disc and it not reading the disc whatsoever. Since then, theres been multiple discs and games that it seems my disc driver just refuses to read. Although it will read things like audio cds and some general installation discs (moniter/ vid card drivers, MS office, ect), it still won't read a large majority a gaming cds. I've managed this long with the help of digital downloads, but as I'm working on getting MS Flight Sim X on my computer, I believe that it is a disc only game (a link proving me wrong would actually be pretty amazing).

Anyway, Im pretty sure that this is a hardware problem. So Im just asking if anyone could recommend a relatively cheap disc driver that will for one actually load games, but also one that is still a general quality piece?

If you are talking about an optical drive (cd-dvd reader/writer), your problem is probably that the DVD part of your drive is not working.

The first thing you'll have to find out is if your drive is IDE or SATA. The power plugs on both types are the same (just a 4 pin molex plug) but the data plugs are completely different.

IDE plugs look like this while SATA plugs look like this.

Most CD/DVD optical drives are 25.00 - 35.00.

I'm not real good with specific models so maybe someone will jump in and help ya out with that.

Anyone.......?

I noticed my older Samsung burners are much more quieter and smoother than the newer Samsungs. The newer Samsungs are just as loud as my Lite-Ons. Kinda makes me a bit sad.

As of now a friend has told me between Samsung vs LG.... Samsungs reads better while LG burns better. But you can't go wrong with either one.

My Sony and Asus burners I bought recently are pretty loud too. But they do the job just fine.
