Hey guys,

Please don't kill me, I tried using the search function and ended up with something about WoW, so I went for the new thread.

I had a couple questions regarding F@H and [H]ardFolding in particular.

First, I've been folding for the [H] for a while now, and I noticed that I'm not on the memberlist under "Connecticut members". What do I need to do to get there?

Secondly, F@H is doing something really wonky with my computer in regards to playing games simultaneously with it. F@H refuses to allow anything to change the screen resolution. When the computer attempts to switch rezzes, it succeeds for about one second, then F@H minimizes the application, never to be maximized again unless I close F@H. I'm running the latest drivers on everything (Just updated them, in fact).

Specs:
Intel D865GLCL (PESO) Mainboard
Pentium 4 2.6c CPU
1.5GB Kingston PC2100 ValuRAM
MSI "StarForce" GeForce FX 5900XT
Seagate Barracuda VI 120GB ATA 100 HDD
Windows XP Pro SP2

2) You're probably using the graphical client; if you switch to the console client with em3 to handle monitoring you'll probably get much better results and fewer problems.

1) You have to sign up with hardfolding to be listed under a particular location. Edit: register here.

#1: Have you registered with the site yet? It automatically grabs your stats, however to get location, GHz etc to show you must register, if not, you will need to contact King_N via PM or if he happens to pop in by chance.

#2: Are you using the graphical client? The graphical client is known cause issues with games, and other full screen apps. Normally we recommend running the console client (instructions here) in conjunction with EMIII or any of the other monitoring utilities otu there. Information on all those can be found in the FAQ sticky at the top of the forum.

#3: How many points do you have, if under 15k, but over 5, we've got a runoff for new folders starting, a contest for folding PC's getting ready to start and such!

Welcome!

Thanks so much, guys!

I never really wanted to dive into the console version of F@H, because I was just a bit timid about text-based distributed computing. But after going through that step-by-step, it doesn't look so bad. And, more importantly, it fixed all my issues!

I just registered using that link phantom post. So that's squared away.

And yes, I have just over 5000 points right now in F@H. That runoff thing sounds pretty good.

Thanks again!

The race is in the stickies, its the F@H MVN (Most Valuable Noob) thread! Get your entry in as it starts on Monday! :D

But the moose's reach-throughs have been rather abundant lately.

Yeah, he's real sweet that way. That's our Moose, gotta love him! :)

And if you give him the chance, he'll love you real good back. :p

I do really wish that Stanford would look into fixing some of the bugs in the graphical version. I still wouldn't run it and never have, but a lot of people do like to run it and it has a tendancy to interefere with a lot of other programs. Normally, I don't say much like this but the bugs have been there for a while and it probably turns a lot of people off from folding since it doesn't work well with other software. I hate to think of the number of people that have quit folding because they wanted to use the eaiser to use graphical version (which there is nothing wrong with that) and it was causing too much trouble to keep on the system.

I have actually feared the same thing...especially with the amount of questions/problems we have fielded here in the past few weeks.

Well alot can be said for visual feedback. When I first started folding, I used the graphical because it was what I was used to with Seti. I think in alot of instances, if we push some of the add-ons like EMIII, we can make everyone happy, they can run the console but still see something.

I still use the graphical version on my main box and have never had a problem with it even when gaming. I should switch it over to the console version but since it's running flawless I really don't want to screw with it. :)
I do prefer the console version and use it for new boxen though.

Welcome to the [H]orde Steppo and good luck in the MVN race!
