I am looking to purchase one of these and would like to know:

*how many watts does each card use
*how much improvement is one over the other
*cost

5770
5750

for some reason when I have my toaster plugged into the same wall socket I am having a huge spike in wattage used. I think it's a driver issue and I'm hoping ATI fixes it.

The 5850 uses 5850 watts per hour. The 5770 uses 5770 watts per hour. The 5750 oddly only uses 13 watts per hour.
The 5750 is the best, the 5850 is the worst, the 5770 is the retarded red-headed step child. As far as pricing the 5850 costs about 950$.

Yes and I was leaving the op to do some work on his own. He has been at hard for 4 years with over 4000 posts, he should understand tdp by now.
 
Thanks for all of the straight to the point opinions. Now I'm just stuck between deciding which card to get:
5770 or 5850? I plan on gaming at 1680 x 1050. The 5770 is a no brainer but I'm wondering if I should pay a little bit more and get the 5850? Looking at the numbers one of the posters posted above it looks like there is a HUGE difference in terms of performance between these two cards?

Opinions?
 
5850...Yes there is huge difference in extreme/very high gaming settings AA/AF

If you don't care for AA/AF you will be fine with 5770.
 
I have a 5770 and it works well for my needs (casual gaming with excellent IQ at 1280x1024). If I played newer games at higher resolutions (1080p and up) I think I would have gone for a 5850 though.

5850 all the way. Even at 1680 x 1050, it will blow the 5770 away. The 57xx series is meant for HTS, not gaming (unless you intend on Crossfire).
 
I'm going to play the waiting game and purchase the 5850 when it's under $250.

I sure wouldn't mind picking up a second one at that price.
I would imagine we would be well into the second quarter of next year before that happens though. (if even then)
 
I made this post in another thread but I am now considering a 5870 over the 5850.

What kind of performance increases is there between these two cards when played on a monitor at 1680x1050? Would a 5870 be useless at that resolution?

I'm serious, Sir. Ati/AMD names their 5xxx cards so that it confuses the customers, there are half a dozen different versions. At the egg that 5850 goes for $310 and the 5870 for $410. I can play the waiting game a bit so in a couple months the price should come down a lot, in fact one could probably get the 5870 in 6 months for the price of the 5850 now.

How the hell do you look at ATI's naming and get confused?

5750 < 5770 < 5850 < 5870 < 5970

It's confusing because ATI used to have only 3 versions of a GPU
low end
middle
high end

Now they have 5. I was deciding if I should get the 5870 over the 5850 and now you posted a 5790. Now I have no fucking idea which card I should get. Why the need to have 5 different versions of the same card? You don't think that's going to fuck the customer who doesn't have time to read through 5 different reviews?

When was the last time you bought a video card? Like 8 years ago? Every generation both companies put out a dozen or so cards targeting each price point. It isn't the same card, either. They get faster as you spend more money. Generally a customer has a budget and simply buys the fastest card in that budget. I don't know what the hell you are doing. Budget doesn't seem to be an issue as now you are debating buying a $600 video card.

So no, it isn't confusing. If you are confused, its because you made yourself confused. It has nothing to do with ATI's simple and straightforward naming.

Every company has screwy naming systems. ATi had the X2 thingy (though not anymore, but I have a few gripes with their driver/catalyst naming scheme), and nVidia has the renaming game.

Why they could not name cards of the lowest calibur 1, and of the highest calibur 100, I don't know :rolleyes:

Prepend a generation indicator and performance category on that and you basically have ATI's naming.

5870:
5 = generation
8 = high end
70 = place within the high end
