Hey guys, my new computer is arriving part by part (in my sig below) and I have ordered a 520 Watt PSU unit below to go with it. The unit will not be here for another 2 weeks while my parts are already here. I have a 350 watt PSU here that I was wondering if I could use for a week until my PSU comes in. Will it not work at all if I use the power supply from my old rig on the new rig? The reason I want to do this is because the guys here at my school were going to help me build it before I went on spring break. My PSU will arrive at my home during the break, then by that time hopefully my computer will be already hooked up and all I have to do is switch out PSU's. Right now the PSU powers everything in my current old rig which is:

Celeron D 356 3.2ghz
1gb DDR 3200 ram
X1900GT
2 DVD Drives (one burner, one ROM)
120gb hard drive

I figure if it does this fine it should work at least a week with a Core 2 Duo E6600, gigabyte DS3 mobo and 2GB of PC2 8800 ram minus 1 DVD-Rom drive. What do you think?

well, it will:

a) boot up ok
b) not boot up ok
c) not boot up and trip the PS protection circuity
d) not boot up and burn your house down.

most likely a.

But you didnt tell us who made the 350W supply so that we could look up the power available on the 12V rail.

so now I am leaning towards d.

lapp the heatsink while you are waiting.

I am going to have to shut my computer down and look at the PSU. I believe it will say it on the unit, so what am I looking for? What kind of rails?

Oh, and to lap the heatsink, dont you need thermal paste for that? I plan on getting that in a week or two, along with some fan controllers.
