9800 Pro Install Question..

Hey all,

This is the first card I've had that required a power cord, so call me a noob. I installed the card, and pluged in the small end of the cord into the card, like in this picture. The other end of the cord has two ends, female and male power ends. I've tried plugging both cords into the only available ones I have, but nothing will work.

If I had the cord plugged into any of the other cords, the computer will not boot. If I remove the cord entirely, the computer will turn on, but will beep like crazy after about 10 seconds. The card and all the other fans are working, so I have no idea what the problem is.

What am I doing wrong? How can I plug that cord into another one and allow the computer to turn on? I got a one page leaflet on how to install it, but it mentions nothing of the power cord in there, hehe.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Try pluging a floppy disk power connector right into the board straight from the power supply, not using the power cord that came with the card.

I did what you suggested, plugged a floppy connector directly to it. It booted up, surprisingly, but my keyboard/mouse wouldn't work for some reason. Sometimes my comp does that anyway. After playing around, I couldn't get it to boot after that, even with the floppy connector plugged in it.

Still stumped.. not sure why it's not working. I may have to keep playing around with it.
 
Hate to bump this.. but bump!

I've played with it more, and cannot get this thing to boot while the plugs are secured.
 
Ah, what power supply are you using? Mine worked better with the floppy connector but if the keyboard doesn't work then you need more power. List everything in your PC as well as the make and wattage of your power supply.
 
PSU specs would help.... but as long as you have a direct 12v cable from the PSU to the video card I 'm not sure what the problem is...
 
Oh hmm.. I never thought of that. I believe it's a 350w PSU.. I will have to check later to be sure. I have two HDD's and two burners hooked up, as well as a floppy drive. Later I will try unplugging one of the HDD's and one of the burners and see if that did anything. If it works, new PSU for me, I guess.
