9800 Pro Fan Replacement

Well I'm needing help in an area I've never considered before.... my graphics card fan.

The stock fan on my 9800 pro has failed/is failing (depending on its mood). My simple goal is to keep it running while gaming, and hopefully without spending too much money. I don't need super cooling, although silence is always golden.

So what should I be looking for? I've never had to replace one of these and I'm not sure what to start? Cheap is good, but I want something that will keep giong for a few years at least.
 
I've used a Zalman heatpipe cooler (the blue one) w/ a slim fan, and more recently I started using a Silenx vga cooler. Zalman also makes vga coolers.

I'd recommend this one.
 
Thanks for all the recommendations guys. It looks like the silencer is gonna be what I'm going to go with. I'm glad it won't cut into the paintballing funds much.
 
my 9800xt fan just broke last week and i put one of those arctic cooling ones on it. just got it today and its 15-20 C cooler than with the stock one.

Great! My fan is running enought hat I am able to game now, but I'm not trusting it much. When it actually died down, the heatsink got to the point where it was like, "ow stop touching that" when I touched it. I'm guessing that's in excess of 130F or so.
 
The fan on my 9800 NP died last year... since I didn't have the cash at the time for a video card replacement I decided to just replace it. I went to a nearby store and found that, curiously, they were all out of GPU cooling solutions except for a Thermaltake Schooner which I decided to try out. It was a bitch and a half to install but it is fanless passive cooling and thus totally 100% silent and, so far, I've been able to run at stock speeds with zero problems.
 
I've used an arctic cooling silencer on a 9800 np, and it worked great. Good luck.
 
Hey gang- the original fan on my 9800 pro just died (not bad for three years of almost constant running :p

I'm replacing the entire rig this summer so I don't want to spend much. I looked at the options above but am concerned about space. My configuration/mobo requires my soundcard to be in the adjacent slot, so I can't put in anything taller than the original heatsink/fan. Anybody know if any of the options mentioned above will fit? :eek:

BTW... the 20 year old 12" floor fan does a fine job cooling...:p
