How much could I pull cash wise for my ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 256?

This card is a year old, and is in EXCELLENT condition.

Never has been modded or anything at all.
 
Possibly DDR2, but I think it is more than likely DDR. I knew new they are still 229 on newegg, but this isnt new.

My thing is, I am trying out EQ 2 on this card, it runs good on Balanced, but I want to upgrade.

Would this card be worth selling, and getting a GeForce eVGA 7800GS?
 
Is there a sort of tweak I can do to increase some of the preformance on this card?

I dont really want to upgrade to PCI-E yet, I know that the 7800GS is a good card and should add on at least another year before I need to upgrade.

I play Farcry/HL 2 etc on this 9800 on full graphics with no problems at all, just EQ 2 that really takes a hit.
 
Depending on which model card you have you can mod it to a 9800XT, and there is always overclocking. Overclocking will give you some noticable increase in performance but nothing drastic.

If you have a 9800Pro DDR1 with a R360 core you can mod it to a 9800XT. If you have a 9800Pro DDR2 you can mod it to a FireGL. My 9800Pro 256mb is able to mod to a 9800XT, but I just left it as a Pro and overclock it to above XT speeds (432/392). Usually I don't run it overclocked unless I see that its struggling with AA or AF.

DDR1 cards have 8 ram chips (4 on each side of card)
DDR2 cards have 16 ram chips (8 on each side of card)
 
That needs to be edited.

I tested the trial, and the island is not as intense as the real lands itself.

Now that I have the full, and am going into towns etc, its a bit more stressing on the card.
 
I see you have a P4C800, you could always overclock your CPU.
 
I want to do that actually. I just ordered a Jet 4 Coolermaster, dont know if I like it yet, but I want to see what I can stretch that clock speed to.

Would OC'ing the CPU show much of a difference in games as well?

At this time, I am running it on standard with the stock intel HS/Fan, it runs with games on etc at around 119-121 F.
 
Ingame is: 1024 x 768 @ 70

Desktop is: 1280 x 1024, or 1600 x 1200 @ 70.

At work, so I cant really check and don't remember.
 
I thought nVIDIA cards performed somewhat poorly in Everquest 2 compared to ATi cards? If so an x850XT might be better suited if that game means alot to you...

Maybe it was the other way around though... anyone remember?
 
Most reviews that I have read on the 9800 PRO say that people have tried going to the 6600/6800 and have issues with EQ 2 etc, and are forced to just resort back to the 9800.

Not exactly sure how accurate they are, but they do see differences.

The only problem with overclocking is that since you have one of the original Prescott's, its going to run very, VERY, hot.
 
Yeah, thats what rumor has told me haha.

I am a little worried about this Jet 4 HS/Fan as well.

It has good reviews, has been on full speed, cooling P4's to about 20 Cel.

I think I might either just upgrade to a PCI-E, or get the BFG Geforce 7800GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card.

But for 329$ I might as well go PCI-E
 
Unless I came upon a large amount of cash, and found a 7800GS at a great price, I don't think I'd upgrade. I'm holding out with my current system till I see how Conroe and AM2 pan out.

The second you hit the submit button, 1,000 fan b0ys will instantly respond to your thread supported by benchmarks and rampant speculation.

329? price might of changed but as of last week w/ my mail in rebate i will pay 260ish for one from newegg(plus shipping). but im not depending on the mail in rebate.

LOL thanks for the laugh.

On topic, I honestly think its best to just get a pcie board and a mid range pcie card, rather than a high end AGP card.

BFG is a little more pricey with their "OC" version, looks like you have an eVGA.
