9500Pro question

yes 9500pro is 8pipes. just like the 9700pro. the only difference is that 9700pro had 256bit memory bus...9500pro just had 128bit memory bus.

suprisingly the 9600pro only had 4pipes.....
 
Yea but it only has a 128 bit memory bus which holds it back.

This is in contrast to the 9500 non pro which was unlockable to 8 pipes and 256 bit memory bus.

I still <3 my 9500 Pro. It gets regular use in my Athlon 3000 htpc.

Wow, people who actually own the 9500 Pro. That makes like what, 3 of us in the world?

Seriously, this is one powerful card. I even runs Quake 4 half decently (by my standards at least). It certainly runs everything pre-Doom 3 just fine. I'm replacing it with an X850XT AGP to go with my 2.4GHz XP just because I bought an LCD so now I game at higher resolutions than 1024x768. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't bother upgrading this year.
 
The 9500 pro and unlockable 9500 np were fantastic bargains in their day. I think there are many on this forum who owned one of these cards at some point.

I have one as well. I have had it since the day they came out and still love the card. But now my system is aging and it is starting to show. As it looks right now the system will be upgraded with a 2800+ and 1gb of PC3200. My only question is that I have heard that the pro could be overclocked as well? Is this an urban myth or was someone mistakenly putting pro instead of NP. If you can unlock and overclock the 9500pro could someone link a page to it!!!

You can overclock a 9500 Pro, but I'm honestly a little unclear about how to do it. I've actually been playing with overclocking my 9500 pro recently, and it seems like the Omega Catalyst drivers will allow it to be overclocked, but honestly I can't tell you if it works or not (I was out of town for a while and with the holidays and everything I didn't get much chance to play with it anymore).

If the Omega drivers don't do it, a BIOS flash does allow it, though I haven't tried this.
 
The 9500Pro could not be unlocked, since it already had all 8 pipelines active. The memory bus was physically limited by the board design on the 128-bit boards, so this is also not changeable. It could be overclocked, but this was also difficult since the BIOS had pre-programmed, locked frequencies. In fact, all R300 cards except the 9700Pro were BIOS-locked.
 
Ok thats what I thought. Basically you can use something like the ATI tools to "overclock" it but it really does nothing in the end. I had been planning on building a completely new system once I finished my paint job on my Antec tower but due to money set backs it does not look like thats going to happen.

Now I am tasked with find a decent speed Barton core for cheap and some memory to upgrade. Any suggestions would be nice
