9500GT vs 9600GT

I need a graphics card so that I can play Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway. I'm not a hardcore gamer, and probably will only play this game. My specs are Pentium D 3.2Ghz, 1.5GB DDR2 RAM, 160GB HDD and 22" LCD. My ASUS mobo has the pci-e slot.

The only reason why im favoring the 9500GT is that it is cheaper and that I dont really want to spend much considering I dont play much games.

Will the 9500GT do a good job for DX10 or should I get the 9600GT?
 
9500 GT is total lightweight... You better buying a 9600 GT or 4670. What powersupply are you using right now?

+1 Both are great choices. The 4670 has been getting stellar reviews and the 9600gt is a little weaker than a 8800gts.
 
Im running this 430w Thermaltake. Will it be enough?

no if youre talking about the 9600gt. thats probably the worst name brand 430 watt unit on the market because it only has 18 amps on the 12v. uninformed people buy those thinking they are getting a strong power supply when in fact its not acceptable for even a midrange card like the 9600gt. even my HP oem 300 watt psu has 19amps on the 12v.

Im not sure what the power draw is on that 3.2 Pentium D he has but I think its around 130 watts. if he had a more modern less power hungry cpu then 18 amps would be plenty to run a 9500gt or even 4670. in reality even with his current cpu the 9500gt should be fine but anything more is pushing it.
 
you guys should really read through the thread before commenting. he has a Thermaltake 430watt psu that only has 18 amps on the 12v. that is NOT enough to safely power a 130 watt cpu and a 9600gt.

why only 18 amps? basically 215 watts of the 430 on the 12volt. still a 9600GT system only pulls around 180 - 200 watts total. Is the PSU that bad that it can hold the 100 watts plus the rest of the 12volt rail load?
 
I don't know about that particular PSU model, but I have this 430w Thermaltake and it runs the rig in my sig with ease.

The TR2 is perfect for low-cost, basic systems like the OP's. However, when gaming comes into play, that PSU is inferior.

Playing at Native resolution on your monitor with your current PSU does not seem tangible.

I'd recommend a PSU upgrade, then a cheap card like the 4670. What is your budget?

I was more or less thinking that it was a just a 5volt heavy PSU for older units. it may not be low quality but I don't know anything about this particular unit. maybe we should sen the OP to http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=3 to ask.

I have no earthly clue how you got the sigged cpu working with that psu because I tried an 8800GS with it and it wouldn't even power on.
 
I just wanna jump up and down and say 9600 GSO is a great value is you can find one under 50$

18 amps total on the 12v with a 95 watt video card and a 130 watt cpu is NOT sufficient. heck thats 225 watts(over 18 amps) right there that nearly all of will be coming off the 12v line. sure it may power on and work for a few days but it is at its very limits.

even that will be cutting close especially for long term use. its not just the fact that his power supply has on only 18 amps on the 12v line but its also that his cpu is a power hog. heck his cpu uses more power than any Core 2 Quad cpu. if he had a modern low power cpu then the 4670 would be no issue.
 
according to gpureview the 9500GT eats 50 watts and the 4670 uses 59 so i'd guess that either of those would be alright

Assuming that the PSU could actually provide 18A on the +12V rail cleanly and reliably. Which I doubt it could..
