9.12's

after few more testing on 5970..

I find out that both GPU are not using full power in Crysis.

the GPU usage running around 60-70% on both core, and I doubt my Q6600 @ 3.6G is going to bottleneck it... not quite sure what happen here.

also, I am having the exact fps when I turn on 8xAA compare to 0xAA... that is something even more odd to me... and some custom map like "Photorealistic" have like 20fps compare to 25-30fps I got on single 5870... uh.

It could bottleneck it in some parts. I have a few saves at level parts where there is a lot of AI running around, and it can stress a core of my i7 920 at 3.8 to near 100%. Bumping the proc up to 4.1 provides a boost there.

Of course, this will depend on your resolution and settings. I found that 5870+5970 do not handle crysis warhead at 2560 very well at all. There is serious thrashing whenever I turn around which I suspect is from 1GB of memory not being enough.

Also, at 1920x1200, the 5970 was in the 90% or more range most of the time. Adding the 5870 dropped the utilization into the high 60% range but only improved FPS a bit. It seems like multi-gpu 5XXX configs can easily be bottlenecked by both the processor and their vram (should have gone for 1.5 GB).

Warhead runs very well here at 2560x1600 but certain scenes and actions make the FPS tank, like for a example looking through a sniper scope. FPS will go from 40 average to 30 after that and stay there. Weird thing is, the FPS will not normalize until you restart the game or exit out to main menu then reload the level. It's almost like one of the GPU cores stopped processing data. Entirely reproducible, at least for me.

no, it can hardly be CPU bottleneck when there is no AI moving, and I am just staring at the sun pretty much...

*Edited my post, found my own answer...

Although I will leave this part of my original comment.

"The 9.12 drivers seem to work just fine, my new XFX 5770 performs rather well. Two things stand out about the video card, the graphics are extremely crisp and the card is whisper quiet".

Spent the evening enjoying the blizzard and running through my newly purchased Steam games. Had no anomolies...all games ran smooth as butter.

Best,

Liquid Cool

I haven't read the rest of the thread, and until Kyle and the gang does an updated CrossfireX/Eyefinity review of the 5000 series, who here has already tested dual 5800 cards and Eyefinity with 9.12 hotfix?

How's the performance so far compared to single card Eyefinity?

(Any screenshots would be nice too? :p And, can make another thread for this...)

Unfortunately, without the software to tell if the two 5870s are being utilized, I won't/can't see the benefit of attempting eyeFinity with the 9.12 hotfix.
If I run Afterburner + any 9.12 drivers, crash city; and I don't think rivatuner would fare any better.

As soon as I can run some monitoring software, I plan on doing exactly what you ask.:D

has the Super Sampling AA been fixed?...can that setting now be used without artifacts or other issues?...I remember hearing about some issues with super sampled AA when the 5000 series cards were first released...they stated to use either Adaptive or Multi sample AA for better image quality

I haven't used the hotfix, but the regular 9.12 drivers appear to be giving random BSOD on my son's computer. I sent the dump files over to MS TechNet forum and its pointing to the drivers. Anyone else experiencing BSOD since installing the drivers?

Another question. Why does CCC say the driver version is 9.8 after installing the hotfix?
